Don't feel bad, and definitely change your midwife. I am 22+4 and l just had my 3rd midwife appointment toda, due to go back in 6 weeks
How come you've never met her? You should have had at least 2 or 3 visits with her already! If you've not met her yet then I'm afraid it's not a midwife problem, it's a problem with the whole midwife team! I would definitely put in a PALS complaint!
I was given my midwife at 14 weeks instead of 8 for some reason, and she only gave me a phone call to introduce herself and ask if I had any worries , I’ve not met her yet at all , I’m not due to meet her until I’m 25 weeks… 😕
I’ve raised a few concerns to her due to 5 previous losses ofc I had some , and have only ever been told go DRs , pay for a private scan or not to worry as I’m not 25 weeks yet…
Have you still had your 12 week and 20 week scans?
Also has anyone done any blood tests? Has anyone checked your urine, blood pressure etc
@Alice yes I had both my scans and seen random nurses for my vaccines after , but except my 8 week appointment with a Midwife who was just a random midwife I’ve not seen a midwife … 😕 I’ve not seen a set person this whole pregnancy😒
This is very much not ok! And again, it doesn't sound like a midwife problem, a midwife can't just decide on her own that she's not going to see you, it sounds like a much bigger problem with the entire midwifery team/maternity services in your area. Especially after several losses, I'd expect you'd have access to more care rather than being denied the basics...
definitely change midwives, you need to have routine checks during pregnancy like blood pressure and urine samples, please make sure you mention you’ve not seen a midwife
I'm not sure if I've met mine 🙈 the first one I saw said she was a fill in as the actual one was off. But the second one I saw didn't say if she was my 'official' midwife 😅 I also realized after the appointment they didn't weigh me or do the breathe test. On badgernotes she put down i had movements when I hadn't, and said I'd been given all these leaflets and I hadn't - including a leaflet on smoking while pregnant and I don't even smoke 😂
You don't always get an assigned midwife. I don't think I had one with my first, just saw whoever was available. OP made it sound like she's not had her visits at all yet but it doesn't seem to be the case. As long as you have the appointments and they run all the expected tests it doesn't really matter if it's the same person or not. It's not like they are going to be there when the baby is born! In fact, even during birth you're likely to have more than one because of shift changes and whatnot. If however you're not getting a proper care, eg. don't get the urine tests or blood tests or aren't offered the vaccines, or even if they aren't helpful and supportive then the best thing to do is to lodge a complaint via your NHS trust PALS services x
I’m the same I’m 21 weeks and been allocated a midwife and don’t know who she is, I missed my 16 weeks appointment due to being in hospital so just met a community one at 18 but my next one isn’t until I’m 25 weeks and I have no clue if I’ll be meeting her then aswell. I have no contact details for my midwife and I only know her name. I’m also a high risk so I’m waiting to find out more details of what is expected as I’m in the dark
Don't feel bad! Pregnancy can hard and you need to feel supported. The fact you've never met your midwife at 23 week speaks volumes. Definitely put in a request to change
