Hi mammas. How soon did you start running?

Hello. I want to run because that is my main method to lose and maintain a healthy weight. As of now I'm at almost 200 pounds at 5'3. Lol. I am 5 weeks post partem. I do weight training, stair master, hip bridges/glutes with 100 lbs weight, and assisted pull ups, squats, lunges. So I have muscle mass and am preparing my body to run again. But the thing is, there is a risk of prolapse and I'm not even sure if I am already prolapsed myself. It's when the organs sag or protrude from vagina or anus. And can cause problems with leaking pee in underwear, or constipation. So, please can you help me to understand, when is it a safe time to run again after pregnancy? Like trail running used to be my go to exercise for weight management.

Talk to a pelvic floor physical therapist. Basically once your pelvic floor and core and breathing are healed you can start running again.

Hey! 12 weeks post partum is what I was recommended by women’s health physio after an assessment. I have no pelvic floor problems.

Talk to your doctor! They will be able to address your specific health situation. In the meantime, start with walking. It will build your stamina and muscle up so when you are cleared to run, you will be ready. It will be a place holder for the time and routines you need to be successful when it's time to really get going. 🏃‍♀️

Best person to assess if your body is ready would be a pelvic floor therapist… I pushed my body more than I should have after giving birth to my second child and I paid for it! 😥 I also was going to suggest what @Bonny said for walking in the meantime!

My physio recommends waiting 5-6 months and suggested a gradual return to sport. At 2 months I was trying to walk for an hour and she said it was too much too soon. Highly recommend doing post partum yoga n Pilates videos as you prepare to get back to running.

6 weeks postpartum and my situation is quite similar to yours. I was weight lifting and teaching yoga prior to giving birth. Had a c section and I had to wait for almost 4 weeks to even start walking properly. My pelvic floor physio said I don’t have pelvic floor issues but to wait for a minimum amount of 6 months to even think of running! Get a pelvic floor physio. Best investment you would made for your postpartum recovery

Ok. How did you guys find a pelvic floor physio therapist?... Did you just Google one in your area? I have state funded Medi-cal insurance and I'm not sure if they cover pelvic floor physiotherapists. I'm not sure how to go about finding one if you could share , please.

@Sylvia if you have medical insurance, it’s typically covered. I found one who specifically work with postpartum patients. Are you based out of Canada?

@Amanda no I'm based out of California

If regular physio is covered on your insurance… a pelvic floor therapist should be too
