Son not talking yet, only babbling

Is this normal at 16 months? He walks just fine, his other milestones are ok except for pointing (he does it very rarely). He is very social otherwise.

My boy is babbling not really speaking, he says mum, dad, nan, dog dog and bubba but that’s it. He doesn’t point either. I wouldn’t be worried yet ☺️

I think they mostly babble in their own language at this point. Some words that can be understood, I think they should be attempting around 3- 5 words but also might not sound like the word exactly but it still counts. Some will obvs say more and some less. They defo won’t be speaking in sentences etc until much later so I really wouldn’t worry at this stage. I think they only start to worry when it’s still an issue at 2 years of age x

Yeah mines just babbling away & saying short sentences repeatedly- every morning it’s ’I did it’ like a broken record bless him😂 xx

All of your kids are actually saying stuff. My son is not. He has zero words.

He will when he’s ready I’m sure. You could practice by reading books and pointing at things on the page repeatedly (do the same few books over & over as that helps too) also I found narrating tasks and daily activities as I do them helped him have a better understanding & improved his language and speech with the things he can now say. It’s better when his attention is fully on you too! Also idc what anyone says but ms Rachel helps - my son learnt open, close from watching her😅 I wouldn’t worry too much just yet. Just keep practicing and when you least expect him he’ll start talking away xxxx

My nursery advised they have a big leap around 16-24mths where something clicks and they start to use more words. Until then they are more a sponge than anything 🙂

I think it’s different for different children. People hit milestones later than others. My 16 month old says a lot and copies what we say but has only recently started to walk independently whereas I know other kids who were walking before a year. They’re all so so different x

Some kids don't say any words till closer to 2 years old, still perfectly normal. If you are getting much past that and they still aren't saying even one word then ask the GP as it might be an issue with their hearing or something like that

My son also has no words. Plenty of babble and some new sounds, but this has only really come on in the last month or so. Nowhere near saying any proper words yet!

My son is exactly the same, very happy babbling away but not any real words yet. Even stuff like mama and dada are just noises not directed at anyone. It’s frustrating sometimes as he babbles so earnestly like he’s really trying to tell you something but just doesn’t have the words. I’ve been up and down with anxiety around it, as most other babies we know have learned lots of words, but I think our will probably just come out with all the words at once, we’ll be wishing for babbling to come back 🤣

Same here. No words, rarely points, only babble. No « mama » with meaning yet. I am super worried and confused. You are not alone!
