Protein shake

I have the chocolate Huel protein and mix with milk (when they don’t make me gag!!)

That’s such a ridiculous thing to say to you, you can get plenty protein from a vegetarian diet! I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years and when I was pregnant with my first my midwife made a few snarky comments about my iron and protein intake (which were both more than fine) and it gave me the rage!

I agree it’s a bit of an outdated view from the midwife. I’m a vegan and get plenty of protein. I actually went to see a nutritionist a few years ago to check my diet and she said most people in Britain are eating too much protein in their diets! Nevertheless, to answer your question, when I do have a smoothie, I use Form which is plant based and 30g protein.

My midwife has never asked me If I’m vegetarian, for either of my pregnancies and I’ve never brought it up. It wasn’t an issue last time I was pregnant, I didn’t take any protein shakes. Unless there was another reason she said to take them eg something to help you get calories if you cant eat?

@Ellie same here. And still get same snarky comments from HV in regards to raising my 3 year olds and 8Month old on the same diet even though I have a fully grown, healthy and tall 15 year old whose had this diet all his life.

I’m vegan and have been for 11 years and wasn’t given any advice by the midwife. My iron level came back normal. I would have thought they would be more concerned with people who don’t eat enough vegetables instead of the old trope of meat being the only protein source!

Hmm interesting, now, the only reason I can think of why she suggested protein shake might be because I am on B12 injections for a very long time.. I’ll hold off consuming protein shake until I hear anything about anemia results. Thank you all for helping!
