Advice please 🙏🏼

My son just turned 15 months old and still doesn't point at anything with his finger. He doesn't understand when I ask him to show me where something is, and he can't show me where mom or grandma is, etc. Should I be worried? I've read that this is a fundamental part of communication in toddlers and that this gesture should appear between 9 and 12 months. He also doesn't talk yet

Does he make good eye contact and respond to his name? Does he understand any basic instruction? Does he engage with you whilst playing with a toy he likes?

@Fary Yes, he responds to his name, he can maintain eye contact. He knows for example how to clap, he can play peek-a-boo, but he can't wave. When I play with him, he seems to be interested, but he gets bored very quickly

Following - Wow exactly this with my son, HV did flag the lack of waving and pointing. Everything else is good, responding to his name, eye contact, please give me this, would you like a drink. He looks at daddy when I say where's daddy but no pointing or waving. He claps and plays peekaboo too. He's also not walking yet, but is making progress in his own time. As to the attention span, I do know they're really only able to 'concentrate' a minute for their age so don't worry too much. 1.5 minutes ish is about normal for any one activity

I think my daughter learnt to point from me pointing to things in her books then after a while I'd ask her to show me. It took a few weeks of lots of repetition!

Don't worry. We were thr same and he started pointing on Sunday. He was born 02.10.2023. So far he is only pointing at trees from the pram or the ceiling. To complement his favourite word which is "up" lol. Regarding showing maybe he just doesn't want to obey your request. Sometimes if I want my LO to walk somewhere I will say "I can't find daddy, where is daddy can you take me". Try finding different ways of saying the same thing maybe one of them will work. Or if you have several adults ask grandma to show where daddy is etc. That helps a lot getting another adult to help demonstrate what something means. I sung a lot of wind the bobin up which has point to the ceiling etc. He used to just bang his hands on the floor or door instead of pointing to them 😅 . now he just points to the ceiling and is then fixated on the nice lights. I sang the pointing bit much more slowly due to attention span/getting distracted. For wheels on the bus he only does the wipers on bus wiping action... for the while song.
