It explores 12 different kinds of produce that should be bought organic. It’s really helpful!
@Grace thank you for the info! I will definitely try and wash them with the baking soda. I was just doing water! So for something like strawberries is it best to just not eat them right now if I can’t find organic ones without mold?
@Kara It’s all up to you! It is so so so hard to try and avoid the consumption of every singular toxin in our produce. Don’t stress too much! If you love your strawberries and don’t want to give them up, just give them a good soak in that baking soda/water mixture and double rinse them after. You can even store in glass jars (like mason jars) to help preserve them instead of the plastic crap you buy them in at the store.
Look up the "Clean 15" as well, they're the ones that it doesn't really matter because the outer layer is protective from the health issues. Part of the reason I try to eat mostly organic is environmental reasons as well. There's a point at which you just have to do the best you can. If it's buy fruit the kids will eat or none because I can't get much organic variety right now, it's better to have some fruit. The nice thing is that you can usually find frozen organic berries any time that are good for smoothies or baking, so that's another way to get them.
Registered dietitian here. That’s so awesome you’re eating more fruits and veggies! I wouldn’t stress too much over whether or not it’s organic. If you have the option to buy organic and it’s affordable then great, but if not, eating non organic fruits and veggies is still better than none at all :) Your question does the good from fruits/veggies outweigh the possible bad from pesticides and I would say 100% yes! So so so many benefits to eating fruits/veggies.
@Megan yay okay thank you! There is sooo much information out there and it can all get overwhelming. So it’s nice to hear from someone whose job it is to know stuff like this 😊
Hey girl! It really depends on what kind of fruit you’re talking about. I’m not a super expert or anything, but I’m really choosy when it comes what what I buy organic and what I don’t. Kiwis, pineapple, and fruit with a decent protective layer on it you don’t necessarily have to buy organic because the pesticides aren’t absorbed as much as they would be compared to blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc. If that makes any sense! What I usually do with alllll of my fruit that doesn’t have a decent “protective layer” such as my berries, I take my fruit and put it into a bowl and sprinkle baking soda on top of it and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. The baking soda creates an alkaline environment when mixed with water which can break down the pesticides on the fruit surface leaving you with clean fruit! I just take a strainer and dump my berries into the strainer and double rinse after soaking them in this mixture.
