Teat size help!

We use MAM bottles and have reflux so my 9 week old has been using size 0 teats up until now. The last couple of days he has been falling asleep during feeds and not finishing the bottles so thought maybe time to change to size 1. Tried it tonight and he coughed and spluttered and half of it ended up splashing on his face and down his chin! Is this normal and will he get used to the new teat or is it a sign to stay on the size 0 for now?? **to add he has reflux so is already pace fed and upright** Thanks!

I would also look at the position you're feeding in. I have been topping up with bottle and mine coughs up if she's too far back, almost lying down.

My lo is 8 weeks and has been on size 1 for a while. Look at the angle you feed on.. its a faster flow than their usual so add a few breaks let them get used to it and it should be fine :)

Keep him more upright initially while he gets used to the new flow! It’s normal and he just needs time adjusting.

Completely normal. Have him sat more upright so that he has to work for it rather than it falling into his mouth. Our boy is 10 weeks tomorrow and he’s been on size 2 for about 3/4 weeks now. X

@Bethan we already feed him upright as he has reflux

@Courtney he has reflux so he is already fed upright and paced with plenty of stops :-(

@Jami he has reflux so he is already fed upright :-(

@Amy we already feed him completely upright due to his reflux, should I persevere with the bigger teat?

I think persevere with the bigger teat for a bit and see how it goes My little man was also falling asleep on a smaller teat (size 1 MAM) and also getting visibly frustrated when feeding (panting out of breath and getting fussy) and when we moved him up a size to size 2 it took a while for him to get used to the new flow. Was still crying during feeds etc until he got the hang of it. It only took a day or so for him to get used to it.

I can’t comment from experience, but I saw a post just like this the other week and saw most comments people had said they experienced the same but persevered and within a few days baby was used to it x

@A.R. Aww this makes me feel better, thank you! I will keep on going!x

@Sophie aww brill, I think I’ll keep on going with it then xx
