Snacks…

So I still don’t think I’m giving my LO enough or the correct snacks. What does everyone give their babies? I still struggle with giving her new things because I’m terrified of choking. I think I’m holding her back because of my fears

Cheese and crackers, biscotti biscuits, melty puffs .rich tea biscuits, pancake, crostant brioche bun. Cheese, the usual veggie and fruit sticks. Carrot, cucumber, tomatoes, orange raspberries pinapple finger melon sticks. Green breans she loves ro snack on.Greated apple and cheese mix. Bread sticks and toast. Eggy bread if she's not done so well on breakfast. She point blank refusing yogurt at the minute.

Oh wow yeah I don’t do any of that. I’m terrified. What sort of crackers do you give?

We just give her normal cream crackers with cheese or soft cheese ☺️ we do veggie sticks and hummus or Philadelphia, rice cakes with fruit or a savoury spread. A piece of fruit with something like peanut butter or greek yoghurt and honey. If you're scared of her choking, there are plenty of visual guidelines out there that can show you the best way to cut things up to greatly reduce the risk of choking 🙂 I think once you've started, you'll get more comfortable with trying more. Start with one of the softer options and gradually build your way up x

Following, also terrified of choking

We do crackers either regular ones we eat or the organix cheesy crackers, bread and butter, cheddar or mozzarella cheese, cut up veg or fruit, rice cakes either plain or with nut butter, yogurt, any kind of melty puffs or melty drops, toasted English muffin, fruit pouches or raisins. I don’t tend to give my baby very big snacks cos otherwise he then doesn’t eat his meals but we just play it by ear. Honestly babies are so good with food and if mine can’t swallow something he does just spit it out.

As Harriet has mentioned, at this age they get a lot better at spitting out things. My LG stuffed her face with a piece of pizza crust last night and spat it out when she realised she couldn't chew it. For snacks I just made her some pancakes with some mushed veg(I had made steamed sweet potato, carrot and parsnip fingers, added egg and cheese and cooked on the pan). I still do a piece of fruit like banana or blueberry but try to balance with a piece of cheese that I cut in thin slices. I've been doing boiled egg a fair bit because I'm trying to get her to use the egg slicer, it cuts it quite thin so it's safe to give as well x
