Deadbeat dads and passports

Hey ladies! I need some advice. My fiancé just got orders to pcs to Japan a few weeks ago. We’ll be getting married in May and officially moving this summer. The thing is I have 2 children from a previous long term relationship. Their dad has gone ghost on us completely. He hasn’t visited them, called them, nor sent a penny since September. Missing birthdays, holidays and everything. I’ve never been through the court system and I’m needing some direction. I need to get the kids passports. I’m instructed that I need him with me at the appointment because his name is on their birth certificates. Can I get the courts involved to force him? I live in Florida if that makes a difference

So never had to deal with this myself. But from what I do understand is yes, you will need evidence that he is absent. Talk to a family lawyer. Also ask if you can have his name removed from the birth certificate and gain sole custody of the kids. Also include that deadline about moving over seas. There’s a group about baby daddy’s here on peanut. You can probably get some more advice there.

@Megan Nice, thanks 😊

I can tell you from experience. When I applied for my children’s passports they gave me hellllllllllll to get them approved although I had a court order saying that I had legal permission to get their passports with the dads signature, before he went ghost, smh and they denied it a couple of times I had to call and chase after them for months until I finally dealt with someone else and they approved it. Initially they didn’t want to. I don’t have any advice aside from prepare yourself for the long battle it may be. Praying your journey is better than mine! 🙏🏼
