@Rachel thank you ☺️ I just sometimes feel like I’m abit lost going through this 🤣
In the front of your notes there should be a chart of when youll see midwife. Its normally 8,16,25,28,31,34,36,38,40. Midwife will discuss any bits with you at your next appointment. If you have concerns then you can ring your midwife x
I was told I had a low lying placenta too at 20 weeks. Was booked in for another scan at 34 weeks to check if it had moved up. In most women the placenta moves by then and isn’t a concern in terms of birth plan. If you have questions there are really good resources available e.g. RCOG patient information. Also if you google antenatal appointments you can see the schedule and what should happen at each appointment on the nhs website
@Kelly thank you - I’m on the badger app and it’s a nightmare navigating that 🤣
@Sarah thank you ☺️
After 20 weeks your main care for things like the placenta is through your hospital. So they will arrange more scans/checks directly through them. It won’t make you see the midwife anymore than the usual visits that have been shared above 😊
@Steph if you want to message me then feel free, im on baby number and always about for a chat x
Sounds totally normal. You should have appointments at 25,28,31,34,36,28,40 & 41 weeks from this point (normally book these appointments at the end of each consultation) this may vary slightly if you have consultant appointments in there too. The midwife probably doesn’t even know about your placenta as she won’t review your notes until she sees you unless you contact her about something. There’s also not much for the midwife to discuss. The placenta will be reviewed again later in pregnancy and a consultant discussion about delivery if it’s still low as this isn’t something midwives can discuss/book. This should have been explained to you at the scan not by your midwife
I saw my midwife 3 times then when I got to 30 weeks it's was fortnightly.
@Ceri-Ann yeah we were given no info really at the scan.. but I don’t think it helped the girl before me had some bad news and they were struggling to manage her and her family. We were just told that it can move, I’ll be sent a appointment in the post and be re scanned to review if will be dr lead or midwife
@Steph 90% of the time it will have moved by the time you get scanned at 32-34 weeks, so the odds are good 👍
@Steph so basically with a low lying placenta it means nothing really until 34-36 weeks. If they scan you again at 34 weeks and it’s still low they’ll scan again at 36 weeks. In the mean time if you get any bleeding as with any bleeding in pregnancy get yourself checked out but it can be more common if it is close to the cervix.
If you have the badge app it should say on there and your midwife should also update you at each appointment. Depending on how your pregnancy is going they sometimes see you more than others but everyone is different x
I hardly saw my midwife except at the 12 week, 20 week, 25 week where I was told I have a low laying placenta too, 30 weeks, and then every two weeks but had an extra at 35 weeks to check if my placenta had moved. I was told 9 times out of 10 the placenta moves so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Mine had moved only ever so slightly but it was enough for me to birth naturally if I wanted!
Absolutley normal! Also, normal not to see the same midwife twice! No contact means no problems 👍 as for the low lying placenta, as long as it's not covering the cervix then it poses no issue. I had placenta previa and the midwife didn't contact me about it either, I just got advise from the sonographer at 20weeks.
