Chores

How are people getting chores done now that your babies are walking and causing trouble?

That is a very good question. My friend put her little one in a playpen but I know my little boy would not stand for that! I try and do as much as I can during nap times and once he's in bed. Now I'm back at work I have the same question!

I can just about manage some washing up and clothes washing when she’s awake. Proper cleaning when her dad is about to entertain her! Cooking is what I find most difficult as she clings to my legs moaning to be picked up. Would love tips for that!

I try and get my little boy to help me or set up a snack or activity xx

With great difficulty. I was always of the mindset to do as much as possible when they are awake but today I had to lock her in baby prison ie the playpen she was NOT HAPPY but I needed 12 mins to get things done without her trying to eat things out of the bin 😵‍💫

I’ve had to get rid of my playpen as she absolutely hated it and would scream her head off until I got her out of it. If she’s in a highchair with a snack she’ll toss it everywhere if I’m not eating with her😩

I usually do cleaning when my partner is home or in the evenings but it’s just that I’m off for the next 2 weeks so I don’t want to leave everything till then and not get anything done all day😓

I think it is a lot easier than when my baby was immobile. Now, if she needs me, she will walk to me. She complains in the kitchen, though, when I’m cooking and she is not being held. I will do mopping or chemical cleaning while she naps, though. When I vacuum (or do most of anything), she just follows me around.

When he goes bed 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 my lounge is also completely baby proofed with a cctv camera so I can leave him in there to get quicker stuff done as and when needed

I’m not going to lie we have a cleaner which we absolutely cannot afford anymore but I can’t bear to part with for the deep cleans and I just about manage to get the washing Hoover and mop every day x

Popping in the play pen for a bit or in high chair with a toy or snack. Otherwise doing things while LO naps or after he’s gone to bed. We have a cleaner come once a week though to do a proper clean

@Neha I said above that I’ve had to get rid of the play pen as she won’t go in it

@Kassia I definitely agree. I was hoovering up before and she was just following the hoover and standing in front of it

@N L We tend to do a deep clean twice a month on the weekend when my MIL can have my daughter for a few hours which is a massive help but I don’t think I could just pie my daughter off to her every night to get cleaning done😅

@Storme What sort of activities do you set up? As I don’t think my little girl is very bothered about playing with toys. She just follows me around the house being up to no good😬

@Amy Normally I clean when she goes to bed as during the day she’s a big contact napper and I’m trapped for 2 hours at the most when I’m off work x

I say enjoy being nap trapped (I really miss those days now) and just accept that now isn't the time to stress about a really clean/tidy house 🙈 my house is at a livable standard and I'm accepting that now. There will come a time when you can clean but your little one won't want cuddles or attention so I'm just trying to enjoy that.

She does that sometimes too…however, now, she has started unplugging it!!! Mid-vacuum! 🥲

@Kassia Luckiky I’ve got a cordless hoover so she can’t unplug it😅

@Amy Yeah I’m definitely enjoying our naps together. Just a bit hard as I’m currently trying to sell my house so I need to keep the house clean😅

If I’m in the kitchen, I either give him pans and wooden spoons to bang or a small bowl of water and bubbles to splash (depending on the time of day) If I’m upstairs sometimes I’ll pop the telly on or just let him wonder around certain rooms where it’s safe for him xx
