Speech

Should I be worried my son isn't speaking in sentences. He does say some words and he will repeat words but if I ask him to say two words together like "mummy please, I love you, more please" he will only repeat one word These are the only phrases he says " all done, no way , oh no, shut up" He's always been advanced with his development but I feel like his speech is delayed for his age. His understanding is great though. Should I be worried?

Although some children will start to do this around now, it's not at all a concern if they haven't yet. You have nothing to worry about 😊

Mine doesn’t say much and not as much as you’ve listed but his comprehension is great and that’s all I mostly care about at this point. I wouldn’t worry. Maybe about the ‘shutup’ bit 😂 just kidding xx

My son isn’t saying too many words probs only about 5 words but he knows exactly what he wants. The words he does say he knows exactly what they mean to. My eldest son was the same as this age. Then one day he just woke up and wouldn’t shut up talking. I spoke to the health visitor with my first and she said the little noises they make our words in their own language they are words we don’t understand. But she told me there is nothing to worry about! She also assured me that sometimes it’s better for the child to say a few words but know what they mean rather then lots of words but have no idea what the word actually means. I honestly wouldn’t worry too much especially at this age they are learning so much already! X

My son only just started saying phrases/sentences in the last month or so. I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about just yet! It can take a little while for that to form and they all do it in their own timeđŸ„° certainly not anything to be concerned about right now Xx

I’ve never met a toddler my son’s age who speaks sentences. It’s more normal to say one word and repeat word back at this age, which he is doing. Sometimes putting 2 words together begins around this age but I wouldn’t say that’s average.. Sounds like your son is where he should be with speech
