Look into early intervention (also called Help Me Grow). It’s a free service for kids with identified delays. My son qualified and a speech pathologist comes to our house once a month to provide services. They also give me tips and things to work on when they are not there. Super helpful!
My son is in speech therapy twice a week. His therapists are saying very good things. But I haven't noticed too much of a difference yet. She mentioned it'll be a roller coaster for 3 months. But he did sign "all done" week 2. He's spoken plenty of words before I guess he just chooses when to speak
We will be getting evaluated once I can finish doing our paperwork for our speech and physical therapy referrals
@Tasha we also had a great experience with Help Me Grow in Ohio! Early intervention programs go by different names in different names, but a lot of them work off of the same frame work
We have done the in home speech therapy since he was 13 months. He is now talking a lot, but if you want my honest opinion it's not because of it. It's because we knew he had a delay and have been working with it every day. We point out everything, sound it out, a lot of ms Rachel because her videos do very well. In the last 2 weeks he has just decided to speak 🤣 which was funny enough when he got reevaluated and he no longer qualified for early intervention
Thank y’all so much!
Screen time delays speech :)
Try talking to them like a real person! I have always talked to my daughter like she’s and adult and she probably knows over 100 words and can repeat anything
@Cat totally understand! We read 10-15 books a day (have since birth) and I speak to him as an adult not a baby. He meets the milestone (50-75 words) but the average word count (50-90% of kids) for a 2 year old is 250 words by 2 years old. To get him caught up to the average by then would be hard so we’re being proactive with it. Since we’re coming up on his second birthday and he meets the milestone but not the average we’re putting him in speech (private pay) as he doesn’t qualify for early childhood intervention. Just wanting to be proactive with it because we can only do so much at home without help but if he isn’t getting it he just isn’t getting it.
Oh! He sounds fine! I wouldn’t put too much pressure on it. I always try to remember we all end up walking and talking just fine and no one will ask him how many words he knew at 2 lol
Your son sounds fine, tbh...... but my son isn't saying much of any words 😭😭 so I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with him regarding internal mechanisms of speaking , tbh. So I look forward to our insurance cards finally coming in so I can finish our paperwork for our speech and PT referrals ( though he is now toddling.... Id still rather see or to also probably make sure that his movements are controlled and in a physiologically healthy manner )
My son is in speech therapy. We like it, but haven't seen much improvement. The state pays for it so maybe try to have the state evaluate your little one.
