Same with my 17 month old… even if she’ll eat something one day she’ll refuse it the next! It’s so hard finding things she’ll eat and I worry she’s not eating enough
Girl, my son in a nutshell.
I will say one thing that tends to help *sometimes* is leave the meal out and within her reach once she’s “done” while she plays and she’ll go back and forth playing and eating.
I’ve been struggling with this too. I’ve done what jourdan recommended and it works sometimes most other times it won’t. Sometimes I can only get him to eat one time a day.
Omg I thought I was a bad mom 😭 my son is barely even wanting to try table foods and even then it’s a losing battle. He’s only been eating baby food with the oatmeal cereal mixed in. I didn’t go through this with my daughter and I’m at a loss 😩
My son is 17 months and just passed this phase. At one point he would only eat blueberries. (Not in the slightest bit kidding when I say this) Now he is eating everything and wants to try new things (still refuses anything involving spinach) but to say the least it’s a phase and will pass. If you are concerned, talk to pediatrician or maybe seek a nutritionist.
Also, try the way it’s presented. For some reason everything is better on moms plate
I saw a dietician for my 17 month old a couple months ago because he’s picky and very low BMI. She rec 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Snacks need to include 2-3 food groups (think food pyramid). For example if you are going to give crackers smear them with hummus/guacamole/peanut butter and give with milk/yougurt/cheese. A serving size at this age is about 2 tbsp. Keep offering things even if they don’t eat it. They need to see it many times before they will even try it. Offer one thing they usually like/ you know they will eat at a meal. She suggested Lara bars and Kodiak pancake mix. And make meal time fun- goofy outfits, songs, cutting food into shapes, etc… And don’t get frustrated. Our job is to offer the food, his job is to choose what he eats. It was a lot more useful than the pediatrician so I’d for sure recommend seeing a dietician.
If he’s into fluids the dietician also said to withhold water (and I’m assuming milk but my son won’t touch it) 30 minutes before the meal until halfway through the meal. I’m assuming so they don’t fill up. Hope that helps.
My 17 month old is the same she only eats Mac n cheese, peas n carrots and baby cereal with fruits mixed in. Occasionally she will eat chicken and fish from my plate. I do realize that she will try what’s on my plate once even if she doesn’t like it she will spit it out.
Following! My guys is 17 Months and only wants pasta or peanut butter and jelly. He eats his fruit but that's pretty much it!
