Obsessed with fruit and veg

My son is obsessed with real fruit and veg and cutting it up. It’s costing me a fortune as we’re getting new fruit and veg every two days. He now insists on putting it in the bath with him and anytime I try to stop him he has full on meltdown. Like not a normal meltdown, nothing brings it out of him. Any tips on how to get him off this obsession. I’m glad he loves fruit and veg and I don’t mind cutting it up but the amount he’s going through and making a mess everywhere is getting too much!

How old is he?

@Rochelle 3 in March x

Could you have some frozen fruit/veg as an option? Mine LOVES melon I refuse to buy the pre cut stuff as that is more than a whole melon 🤣 so I have now also ended having melon most days to stop it going bad. Could you buy fruit and veg that’s in season so it’s cheaper.. doesn’t help now but could you grow some of your own? Won’t lie the bath situation is a new one for me which is probably just a phase, BUT could you get some pretend fruit/veg for him to have in the bath instead?

@Emma he has hundreds of fake fruit and veg which he loves too but he’s more interested in the real stuff 😂 but definitely going to try some frozen veg! Great idea xx

Okay ,well the good news is he is old enough for you to start teaching him about moderation ! For example my daughter will eat and ask for more so I will say to her you can’t have anymore because we need to save some for tomorrow. Otherwise we won’t have any to eat tomorrow. If it just appears every time they won’t learn that concept of self control. I remember when we used to go on holiday my mum would give us all spending money at the start, my niece would blow it all the same day and have nothing to spend for the rest of the week. My niece hadn’t been taught how to regulate or moderate her things so that they lasted. You can start by maybe going to buy and then splitting it into 4/5 portions and saying this one is for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and so on. Make it fun you can say we are going to put a special lock on it because you love fruit and we want you to have some everyday!!! He will probably get upset but he would at any age because he is used to having as much as he wants
