Overweight with an active toddler boy

Feeling very down right now. Need to take baby boy out more often but I’m often held back by the fact that I’m very overweight and can’t do some movements easily- esp in public. Things like getting on and off the floor with him. Carrying him for extended periods or maybe running. I don’t want to go out just us two when his dad is not available because what if baby needs me in a capacity that is hard to fill while we’re out! It’s so embarrassing struggling to get up in public. 💔 I’m working on my weight but this is the situation right now. I really want to be able to take him places just us.

Same is happening with me..Im 3 months pp & overweight. I can’t hold my baby for long time. I can’t out without my husband

@Manveet thought it was just me 😩

I’m so sorry. What about taking him for strolls? You will get exercise. Does he like to go in his stroller? Do you have a safe area to stroll him?

Please PLEASE feel free to message me because this is me right now. I was already heavy before but now my son is two and I’m at my heaviest and whole heartedly understand this feeling.

@Shelly yes he loves strolls! But it’s very cold out and snowy right now.

@Savannah oh wow thank YOU!

When it's warmer, go for a walk with him and show boundaries like the sidewalk. This way if he runs off, he knows where to stop as you catch up. Ask him to play help you up from the floor, that builds bonding and empathy. These are some of the things I do with my son. If you have stairs, going up and down them is REALLY good exercise that the two of you can do together. If not, walking around the floor is another good one. Although I usually lie down and have him climb over me 🫣 Please don't be embarrassed... it doesn't matter what others think and everyone is battling something. It really takes one step, one spark of motivation to get it going. If you have insurance, Nourish has telehealth nutritionists. I've been working with someone for the past few months to bring down my cholesterol and prediabetes. They also work with post partum, weight loss etc. Mine's been giving me ideas on high protein (nursing baby #2), low saturated fat meals that are easy to make since my husband and I work full time.

Im so sorry , but you can fix it it’s fixable. I would advise you to get a nutritionist and start walking everyday. The weight will fall off adding weight lifting to it too. You got this !!

@🇺🇸Castle Princess👸🏾 thank you mama!

@Mee thanks so much for sharing! These tips are great ❤️

Thank you so much for the feedback everyone. I’m honestly feeling a lot better. I’ve resolved to apply your tips and just do what I can as regards to playing with him while I continue to work on my weight loss - meal plan and working out everyday. I hope in a year’s time to be much fitter🤞 Right now I’ll just be patient with myself. I love this community ❤️

I'd just do it. You'll be waiting forever if you wait to lose weight. I'm not overweight, but I had spinal surgrry 2 years ago, and at the grand age of 36 I have arthritis in every joint. My back feels irreparably messed up at the end of every day and I'm amazed it is better by the morning. I haven't run since my surgery 2.5 years ago as I've been too afraid. I know I'm going to find it impossibly difficult when my son is a toddler. If it is embarassment and pain holding you back, I'd push through it. If I saw a bigger lady making the effort with her son the last thing I'd be thinking is 'how embarassing she can't get off the floor'. We've all been through hell at this point - we know weird stuff happens with our bodies and we just have to accept it and do our best. I'd honestly go for it. Nobody owns the parks or outdoors and it is frankly their problem if they think your struggling is something funny not inspiring.
