Tips for encouraging independent walking?

My little boy is 10 months and loves to walk holding onto our fingers he can walk a few steps here and there and has been doing this for a few months. Does anyone have any tips for encouraging his confidence to walk independently?

Biggest tips are 1. Get him a push walker so he can walk independently 2. Instead of him holding your fingers, support him from the armpits. That way, when he is feeling confident, he can more easily walk out of your hands for independent steps. Or you can "be too slow for him" and "lose your contact" on him

I've read that push walkers aren't great for walking because they encourage them to lean too far forwards! And if I try to do armpits he throws himself on the floor in a strop, same as he does when I try and let go of his hands

I read have them hold onto balls or something in each hand. I didn’t have any balls so I put mittens on her hands 🤣 seemed to do the trick x

@Emma that's how we got him to take his first few steps and he will do some occasionally without any encouragement but he's been doing that for like a month now

A baby doll pram and walker helped us.. as well as having futon stools, our daughter would pull herself up on it and move around holding it.. we would have our hands out further away to encourage steps.
