My daughter had six words to her at 14 months and then went down to 1 word. I had her seen at 17 months and they said she could be behind but also age is a factor and they would see her a few months later. At 22 months they saw her and she had 11 words, 7 animal sounds and some signs. They signed her off as her progress was great. I still worried as all other kids were putting 2 words together. At 2 she could say 13 words. She started nursery at 2, and then at Christmas when she was 25 months old it was like a light switch came on and she started picking up words like a sponge. She's now 28 months old, speaking in sentences and has over 250 words. I wonder now why I worried in the first place, but it's completely natural to worry. You can always check in with your HV for a second opinion and see what they think. They are happy to give you the info you need to refer. X
I found animals sounds and flash cards were a great help! There’s also those little toy machines you can get to slot cards into now that say the word for you and they can try and repeat it back. That could be worth a go. The animal noises and flash cards really helped my boy get further with the speech. Don’t worry, just see how he gets on trying some different ways, all kids learn and absorb things differently and at their own pace. Boys can be abit slower with the speech than girls. Hope this helps x
My little one is almost 2 and can only say a few words xx
My 18 month old doesn’t say anything, so no, I wouldn’t be worried x
