Consent to child on holiday

I am a little bit confused on where I stand with this as in the uk ( Scotland ) you need written consent from you child’s father to take them out the country! But my son’s dad is no contact but we haven’t went through court or anything like this. I have a message from him saying he has chosen to have no contact. Reason why we have went no contact as due to my sons dads past convictions he isn’t aloud to be around my son unsupervised at all and if they did have contact it has to be under supervision at all times and he isn’t actually supposed to be around anyone under the age of 16 alone or without adult supervision. What do I need to do? - any help would be appreciated

A letter from dad (if he is on the BC) or a court order x

If he is on the birth certificate then unfortunately you need to go to the courts and get a court order. Rather than an arrangement order I would look into removing him from birth certificate and therefore removing his parental responsibility. You need to seek advice from a solicitor x

I took my 3mth old on holiday without his dad ( he was working and couldn’t make the same flight out) - I didn’t have to show any paperwork You are the mother. We are not married and my child has his surname! I took his birth certificate that was all Who is saying you need consent? I think that’s a rumour…. If you are not in a legal dispute with the dad I’m pretty sure you can just do what you want

@Francesca it’s the law. If both parents are on the birth certificate, you need both parents permission to travel abroad or a court order x

Wow! Just been on gov.uk - letter will be fine with contact details on that they may or may not ask you for. It’s probably far messier if parents are separated, or if a divorce/ custody battle is going though. I flew to the states and nobody checked or asked! Didn’t have anything with me anyway! My cousin has always flown with no permission as dad didn’t want anything to do with the child. Never had an issue. Personally I would just risk it rather than dig up the past with quite frankly a guy that sounds like a complete waste of space 🤷🏻‍♀️
