Childminder

Hi all I’m sending my daughter to a childminder and as I was going through the contract I noticed that if the childminder goes away on holiday I’m still to pay her but at 1/2 the rate for the time she’s away, this seems a bit odd to me or is this a normal thing? Please help!

Nah that's not OK as far as I'm concerned! Childminders are self employed, and self employed people don't get paid if they don't work

Mine is the same. 50% if she’s on holiday and 50% if I am

Our childminder doesn’t charge when she’s on holiday, but we pay when we’re on holiday xxxx

Our went on holidays twice in August and December of the year and charged half through her holidays. If I’m to do it again, I’m definitely not signing a contract like that

I’ve just asked her about it and we’ve agreed that I won’t pay anything if she’s on holiday just will pay same rate if I go away! Thanks for all the comments! X

That's wilddddddddddd

That's very common for childminders

I've used a few childminders in the past with my kids and I've never paid for this, only when I'm on holiday. As I say, they're self employed, and self employed people don't get paid holidays

That is so strange to me

I pay my childminder for her holidays too (at full rate, although her rate is quite cheap IMO). I thought this was standard as I used to pay nursery for the days they were closed when my daughter went there instead x

@Rebecca just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it isn't fairly common. A quick Google search will bring up plenty of forum threads from child minders. Some charge for holidays, some don't. Some charge full rate or half rate. Some charge a higher rate throughout the year and don't charge for holidays. Let's be clear, self employed people can choose to pay them-selves for holiday time if they want to....they are fully in charge of what they get paid and when.

I’ve used three over the years. One of them never charged on holiday but you had to pay when you went on holiday. And then two of them charge half when they are on holiday and half when you are. I prefer this personally. X
