Hi there! I’m a child development specialist. While yes it is a sign of stranger anxiety, it is very normal around 5 months. That means that they are becoming aware of who their mom and dad are! And they have a strong emotional attachment to you. They’re starting to recognize unfamiliar people so they may cry or fuss. My 5 month old son did the same thing. He cried at both his grandmothers at first. But now he’s almost 6 months and he smiles at any stranger who gives him attention!

A while ago my son and I were at a relatives home where he known some people but not others but at the end we didn’t leave and he had a good time with other family toddlers there
