As a teacher I have seen many kids at all different stages. If your child is crawling and has interest in moving around walking will come eventually. I have had children starting to walk as late as 17 months without concern. (Concern for me would be 18months.) It just means you have a cautious baby which isn’t a bad thing. Cautious means your baby is a thinker. “How do I get from here to there without falling?”
You are not alone, my baby girl is the same. She’s 14 months old also has reached every milestone, she’s cruising around and able to get up the stairs but won’t walk on her own. She lowers herself to the ground using her knees. Am worried but her doctor recommended infants and toddlers program if she’s yet to walk by 15month.
It's probably totally fine, but have you had your babies vision checked? Mine always passed her tests until 12 months; turns out she's farsighted & needs glasses. So we think that's why she's not walking yet. But her doctors aren't concerned since she's showing all the signs of readiness. It's not worrisome until 18 months!
All of this has made me feel better it’s hard going into gymnastics and almost all the babies are walking im at loss at what else to do to promote it so thank you everyone ! Her pediatrician hasn’t said anything yet but definitely will check in
Working in a daycare, I have seen babies who wouldn't walk until closer to 18 months. I don't know how true it is, but I heard that it's getting more normal for babies to not walk until 18 months.
It’s an 18 month milestone. Usually gyms don’t let you sign up for gymnastics until 18m also
Almost 15 months and my little dude just started crawling 2 weeks ago. Just so everyone is aware, in the US, you can look into a program called early intervention, and basically it is free physical therapy covered by the state if your baby qualifies solely based off their skills, it has nothing to do with income and actually they didn’t even ask for any personal info from us like income, ss, etc. in order for them o qualify they just have to be delayed in an area such ad gross motor, fine motor, talking, etc. We started my baby on this a month ago and within 2 weeks he started crawling!
Wow I might try that if we hit 16 months with no walking thank you and I’m so excited for your little one !
@Melanie Stefani this is everywhere in the US?
My daughter will be 15 months on the 4th and just this week started walking on her own. Still unsteady but each day getting better. It will come when they are ready.
Almost 15 months. Jan 10 birthday. Sounds like we are at the same stage. Cruising and walking with support but not alone. I’m not concerned yet as long as they are continuing to make progress I think it’s normal
