Toddlers go through phases. My son is cutting his molars so he has been selective with what he wants to eat lately. I make smoothies, grilled chicken, applesauce, yogurt, meatballs, pasta salad, chicken salad, grilled cheeses, ham and cheese roll ups. I let him choose his meals too. It helps!
I’m 96% positive that this kind of behavior stems from the answers above, and also their growth rate. Before, their body was growing RAPIDLY and putting on weight constantly. Now that they are 2, they stop growing as much as they were, so their appetite shrinks as well!
Super normal, and sounds like she’s hitting all the things she needs to intake tbh but but This Instagram is helpful for ideas https://www.instagram.com/yummytoddlerfood?igsh=MWRqZTlodGpra3p6Yw==
How long as it been going on? As others echoed, phases of selective eating can be normal. My 26mo will go through waves of this when she is teething (waiting on the last 3 molars 😩) or is sick. I would try to keep mealtimes as positive and stress free as possible and avoid pressuring her to eat anything. As a parent, its our job to decide the foods we make accessible to our kids but its not our job to decide how much or what they eat of what is offered. But I totally get it - it can be so stressful 🫶🏽 Does she have interest in cooking with you?
I found putting a safe food and then a non safe food on a plate but separated helped with my daughter as she could choose to try it or not. She's getting a lot better with eating foods again now at 5.5 but it was a long road x
It's totally normal for this, my daughter lived off pasta for a week 🤣 I offer food I know she will eat along with other foods, sometimes she tries the other food sometimes avoids it, but it's important to keep introducing, I also try not to make a big deal of it. On a side note, my daughter will eat foods at nursery she will not touch at home, carrots, peas, broccoli, she even says I only eat them at nursery and not at home 🤣
What you’re describing is very normal. Kids start off eating everything then they realise they can pick and choose, and usually go basic and bland. With my daughter, I always expressed how much I enjoy whatever I’m eating, and asked her to try a food a few times otherwise she will never know. And always talk about how its good for my muscles, or energy (I know 2 is prob a bit too young to understand that part). There’s also a few instagram accounts that talk to picky eating, like Kids Eat In Color, Feeding Littles. If you’re not already following them, check it out?
