Sterilising bottles HELP PLS

I am 4 weeks pp and exclusively breastfeeding is getting too much 😣 I’ve bought a momcozy electric pump and I’m unsure on sterilising bottles. We have the Milton cold water steriliser so would I need to wash the bottles in soapy water and then sterilise them. Once sterilised do I need to wait for the bottles to completely dry and not have any water or is some water residue okay?! Thank you!!!

I wash the bottles in hot soapy water, rinse and then sterilise. I don’t wait until the bottle is dry, don’t see why that would really matter !! :)

Thank you for your response @Brooke! I’ve just seen a lot of things about having to wait for bottles to be completely dry before putting breast milk in but they take sooo long to dry I don’t know how it’s sustainable 🤯

If you have mam bottles you can wash these in hot soapy water then put 20mls of water in the base and sterilise in the microwave ( they take 3 minutes each) all this is noted in the leaflet inside I don't wait for ours to fully dry; there's no need too as they've been sterilised 😊 x

I never wait for mine to be fully dry, I just keep the bottles upside down on a clean surface and the same again with the teats with the top on it, the bottles themselves are already sterile and if you tried to dry them you could re-introduce bacteria to them, just use them a there are, a little water is fine as long as it's sterile (e.g out of the Milton with a little time for the droplets to reduce, or a steriliser) I used to do this all the time, I'd sterilise 2 bottles at a time and then when the next 2 were ready, I'd use the 2 already sterilised while the other 2 sterilised and had time to dry a little, my little girl is 11 months old tomorrow and absolutely fine

Thanks @Kimberley @Christina 💛 so once sterilised would you put your pumped milk in the bottles straight away and then put them straight in the fridge/use as and when? X

You can do yeah, just make sure you use them within the time before the breast milk goes bad 😊 x

I bought a whiteboard pen to write on the bottles the date and time expressed to keep track of when it needs to be used by, I also keep the bottles and pump parts in a plastic tub that is only used for them once they’ve been sterilised until I use them. Your pump parts can be washed with soapy water in between uses and only need to be sterilised once every 24 hours, I’ve found this much more manageable when pumping multiple times a day x

Tommee tippee does a uv steriliser, simply wash bottles in hot Soapy water rinse l parts under cold running water and put in steriliser , does 6 at a time and can sterilise in 35 or 60 mins, and you can store them in the steriliser as they will be kept sterilised for 24 hour and does a sterilising cycle every 2 hours. xx

I know some people like to stand the bottles to dry afterwards but you don’t actually have to. I usually try get one bottle out the Milton bucket a few hours before I’m going I use it - i shake it down into the sink, put it all together then put it on the side and it will be mostly dry by be time I use it but Iv also just taken one straight out, shook excess water off and used straight away. It’s perfectly safe - I researched before doing that. Milton states you can use things straight from the bucket.
