Formula

My little boy is on aptamil formula and I don’t know if it’s quite agreeing with him. I did try Kendamil and that didn’t agree with him either, I think it was a little too rich. My question is how many times can I change the formula? I don’t want to keep chopping and changing and upset him even more. Did anyone else has any issues with aptamil? And what milk are you using instead? I’m worried he has a slight intolerance to something, but again I don’t think it’s enough to warrant going down the allergy route quite yet so want to try other things beforehand.

i don’t think there’s a limit on how much you change, if it isn’t agreeing with your little one it’s best to change it. i’d just make sure when you’re changing you’re weaning them off the other one and not just a flat change, as this can cause big upset tummies and unhappy babies. I personally use cow and gate and never had any issues with it, but if you’re worried about an intolerance, maybe ask for some advice from the gp before changing it again, as they might recommend a better formula x

@Beth cow and gate was what I was looking at actually. But yeah he’s got his 8 week check up/immunisations next week so I’m going to speak to the GP then and see what they recommend x

@Sarah hopefully they can give you some good advice and they don’t just fob you off, i’ve heard that some are quite rude tbh x

@Beth yep I’ve read the same thing! I’ve been a couple of time already due to some other symptoms he’s had and they’ve just put it down to reflux. I mean they’ve been somewhat helpful but they’re very quick to say it’s normal and all babies are like it. Which always winds me up, Becuase surely they shouldn’t be the norm! X

@Sarah have you tried him with any infacol? my friend swore by it, but it made my little one worse. i was almost fobbed off by the hospital the other week because he seemed fine by the time they saw him, almost 4 hours later, but when he initially woke up he was sucking his belly in, it was terrifying x

@Beth I feel like infacol helped for a while. And then it stopped being as effective. It’s also recommended not to use it if they have reflux due to the orange flavour. So I’m trying dentinox now. I’ve also started giving him probiotics. And god that sounds absolutely terrifying. Did they work out what it was? Is your little boy okay now? It’s horrible having to go through that as a mother, especially when there is something wrong x

@Sarah Hopefully they help a little bit! It turned out he had viral bronchiolitis 😂 he’s okay now, he just weren’t eating, was really tired all the time and my child eats for england to say he’s 9 month old 😮‍💨 but it’s so annoying, and they’re really condescending, unsure if it’s cause we look young, but it’s like i know my own child 🤦🏼‍♀️x

I’ve been using cow and gate first infant milk and it’s worked lovely for my little girl we’ve had no issues, she sometimes gets a bit sick but I think that’s mainly her pushing her burps out too aggressively 😂

@Beth aw bless him, I’m glad he’s doing better now. and exactly, you know your baby! You’re told at the hospital when you give birth, you can go to a&e or the drs for everything and anything and nothing is a stupid question, yet you do just that and they make you feel like you’re wasting their time 🤷‍♀️ @Chloe 😂😂 my little boy does that. Like they sound like they really hurt lol, but good to know cow and gate works for you too!

My little girl was on aptamil and she seemed upset, we switched to aptamil advance and she’s perfect now

@Eliza it’s aptamil advanced that he’s on atm, and always has been annoyingly. That’s why I put him on it because I heard good things, I mean he isn’t awful awful on it. But I can just tell he’s not as happy as he should be

@Sarah what are his symptoms? And what bottles do you use? I’ve recently bought the anti colic tommee tippee ones and my lg seems to love them

@Eliza mucusy poo (once a day), congested, coughing, sneezing, fussiness, very gassy, reflux symptoms and occasional spit up/being sick which has only started in the last couple of days. I use mam anti colic, I did try tommee tippee but he hates them! I think the flow was too quick so he just didn’t get on with them

@Sarah aww bless him! I’m not too sure, sounds like an intolerance to me more than just reflux then

@Eliza yeah I think so too, I don’t think it’s a full blown allergy, but I do think he’s sensitive to dairy. So I’ll see what the dr says. Just so much trial and error!

Hi lovely, my little boy had similar symptoms and instead of going down the allergy route, I tried adding Care Co Lactase drops to his milk and it really helped. You can get them from Boots or I sometimes buy them on Amazon. It’s supposed to help them break down the milk easier. Maybe give it a try if he’s not got terrible symptoms.

Kendamil was the only formula that worked for us and it’s great for reflux too. I would say don’t frequently change milks as you never give your babies digestive system chance to adjust. I speak from experience as I changed formulas too often with my first. You should allow them at least 3-4 weeks on a formula to allow their body to get used to it before you change. A lot of first time mums (myself included) panic and change when it could be something else like reflux, colic or just an upset tummy I would say if your baby isn’t even 8 weeks yet and you’re already considering a 3rd formula then you’re not allowing them chance to get used to any milk My second has been on kendamil since birth

my girl was on aptamil but it just made her poo super thin like her pee so moved to sma and now she’s so much better. so i recommend that, we use the little steps but i think it’s fairly similar to regular sma :)
