?

I don’t know if anyone’s little ones have done this or something similar, but my son maybe 2 weeks ago started doing this sound in his throat and voice ( it sounds like if you was to clear your throat if you had something in it ) but it’s got to the point where he’s constantly doing it throughout the day, I then mentioned it to him the other day and asked him why he does it and to try and stop as I noticed how he’s constantly doing it and he got a bit upset and said he can’t stop and doesn’t know how to stop it and he said he doesn’t do it for any reason. Not sure what this is or what to do? It’s not causing him any harm but when I mean he does it every second throughout the day he does… just not sure if it’s doing him any good and what to do really or whether someone’s had something similar….

Sounds like a tick. I pick them up when I'm tired It's an adhd thing for me. I also pick them up if someone else has one and I watch them too much. By all means get him checked over by a gp incase he has an irritated throat but for me I have to forget about it. Bringing ticks to my attention makes it so much worse. In the end they go away by itself but can take anywhere between a few days and a few months

@Devon thank you, I did think it was a tic because he was getting so upset when he said he can’t help it and that he can’t stop it. His throat seems ok and seems to be talking fine just worried with how much he’s doing it that he will eventually loose his voice. I feel awful that I keep telling him to stop, I’ll be honest he doesn’t seem phased but by the end of the day I do get a bit like he’s gotta stop because surely for him it’s straining him and getting a bit much? So is this something I need to bring to anyone’s attention, like HV or something? Or shall I leave it xx

I'd mention it but not a lot ypu can do . Better off just ignoring it . Get him to mouth breath if it's bad as it will distract him. Thay stops me doing a throat tick

@Devon when you mean mouth breath; do you mean like literally breath normally through his mouth like do a breath? & ok that’s fine from tomorrow not gonna mention it and ignore it, feel bad as I’ve not told him off but I just feel frustrated for him because it’s started randomly xx

Yeh it makes you focus on your breathing more and distracts your mind from the tic. Worth a try :) don't worry. My husband gets really irritated by them but does understand like you that It's an involuntary thing Definatly worse if I'm tired or eaten to much sugar/caffeine etc so see if there is a pattern for him

@Devon I feel awful not gonna lie but I’m glad as I’ll wake up tomorrow completely ignore it and let him do his own thing, he doesn’t nap he’s a typical 3 nearly 4 year old boy, none stop lol so not really to sure I have noticed when he’s doing something like active he doesn’t do it, but when he’s watching tv, eating or more focused on it he does it, it is a bit frustrating without being horrible as it’s constant x

Do you think it could possibly be hay-fever?

@Yenla how could this be ? Xx

Have you ever seen when people who have hay-fever make a throat grunting noise and itch their ear? Some people get an itchy throat from hay-fever.

@Yenla I’ve never seen that no but it’s fascinating so I’ll bare this in mind thank you xx
