If you notice she's getting more worked up at a specific time of day say 12:30 for lunch. Try starting lunch prep at 12 so by half past you've got everything ready for lunch. My 11 month old usually just has what we have or something similar. So if I've got pasta and salad she'll have pasta pesto and tomatoes. It makes things so much easy just giving them what you're having. I don't have a very good relationship with food and always struggle to feed myself never mind get food sorted for my family
I hear ya. I feel like this is such a hard thing that no one prepared me for. Also the constant cleaning after each meal. I was thinking of making a list of possible meals so I won’t have to improvise on the go. Also I tried to make a lot and freeze a bunch for future days
@Ebony she usually eats after her nap but I’m currently pregnant so I nap when she naps most of the time 😅 I usually give her what we eat for dinner but lunch is my real struggle since it’s just her and I and I really don’t want to make a full course meal everyday at lunch too
@Gal yes! I feel like if she isn’t eating I’m cleaning! It’s a never ending cycle. Im thinking of doing that especially since I’m due in June I’m thinking it’ll make my life a little easier if I plan and prep ahead.
Planning for snacks has made life so much easier, stock the freezer and fridge etc e.g. if I steam veg for dinner one night I do a tub for the fridge and then can grab some to give him while making luncv. Muffins, pancakes etc in the freezer for easy breakfasts. For dinner I often prep when he's happy playing mid afternoon as by dinner time he gets fussy and needs attention but if I can just turn the oven on for dinner if makes it so much easier
@Adriana oh I totally feel the whole cooking a 3 course meal for every meal. Bulk making some fritters and pinwheels or similar or get your partner to do it will help then you can grab it out the freezer when needed. I did this when we started weaning and now I only really do it when I know I've got a day out coming soon
I plan out what we’re going to have every day on the weekends (for breakfast, lunch, dinner) and we usually do the same meal for two days with a break in between so MW we would have scrambled eggs and toast and fruit etc. I use a magnetic calendar on the fridge that is just for meals and it has helped so much.
Make batches of things that you can freeze and then reheat easily. My baby had a tomato, courgette and cheese pinwheel today, with sliced avocado and chopped grapes! Loads of diff flavours you can make too! Get a recipe book for some inspiration!
i feel like i always run out of ideas but i always keep things like cream cheese/pesto/ cheddar cheese/strawberries and raspberries to spruce up normal foods. so like instead of having just toast or bread, i’ll put any of these things on it so he’s getting a variety (plus my LO thinks that jam on toast (mashed berry on toast) is a treat so he loves it)
My LO is very picky. For breakfast we have either oatmeal or yogurt and berries, lunch is a scrambled egg with cheese and ketchup. Dinner I try and give her what we eat but if she refuses I give her pbj (her favorite). She gets a fruit and veggie pouch as a snack when she wakes up from nap and sometimes some baby crunchies through out the day.
We make everything from scratch and do a mix of meal prep, planning, and day by day. We premake a bunch of foods for breakfast, lunch, and snacks that we keep in the freezer like blueberry muffins, banana carrot muffins, spinach apple muffins, cottage cheese pancakes, hummus pancakes, etc. We heat those up whenever we need a quick meal or to fill in gaps then cook a lot of things on the spot like eggs, toast with Greek yogurt mixed with fruit, nut butter, and chia and flaxseeds, cutting up fresh fruit and cheeses. We also usually make a few dinner components in bulk so we can rotate different proteins and side dishes in addition to giving her what we eat. We always keep a pasta made on hand for a side or main when needed like Mac n cheese, avocado, spinach, and Parm sauce, pesto, broccoli, garlic, and oil, etc. On a high protein pasta like red lentil or chickpea.
Most toddlers don’t care what is considered breakfast food and whatnot, she often has scrambled eggs with lunch and dinner because it’s nutritious. She has steak leftovers a lot in the mornings lol she’s 2 and a bit picky but her favorites are: Scrambled eggs with spinach Homemade chicken nuggets Homemade French fries Pork tenderloin Pork sausage links Chicken sausage (Italian & apple) Angel hair pasta in avocado oil Cornbread muffins Banana blueberry muffins Peanut butter buttered toast Raisins and fruit cups Fresh fruit/ berries
I just make sure I have a good selection of perennial favourites, then add things as needed. So I'll have cheese, bread, apples, and a few snacks he likes available at any time, and then ask which food he wants that day out of a selection that I know I can make. So I'm like ok kiddo for lunch we got cheese and apple slices, then we can do either a ham sandwich or I can warm up some left over chicken and rice. Which do you want? And let him pick from that. If he's being stubborn and not choosing I'll just make both and take a bite of each, and thats usually enough to have him reaching for one of them, and I'll eat the other one lol
Hi! I recommend to my clients to plan their week in advance and have 1-2 back ups on hand. It may sometimes feel redundant but it’s best to repeat than to rely on packaged snacks
