Im getting one friday
I had one with my first and nothing happened. My friend however had one with her first and it worked within a few hours 😅
My understanding is that it doesn't help unless you're already progressing and close to labor. I was 4 cm yesterday and my induction is scheduled for next Wednesday, so I'm going to have the sweep done at my appt on Tuesday if he hasn't arrived by then. My due date is Monday. I wouldn't do it at 38 weeks just for the hell of it without more than 2cm and some effacement/baby being low. It can be painful, and some docs recommend against it because it's just another chance for introducing bacteria.
I was just about to start a similar thread to this. I’m 38 weeks and my OB asked if I wanted one yesterday to which I said no because it felt early (I’m only half a centimetre dilated) and I’m not super uncomfortable or anything. I’m thinking of doing it at my 39 week appt next Tuesday but still in two minds. Do I do it if I’m more dilated and effaced or do I wait until my due date (04/15) and get it done then?
I’ve heard different things that it’s either successful and quick or it ends up giving you painful contractions and it’s prolonged. I’m on the fence about it too especially with them stressing me out that she may be big if I make it full term (my family has never had a baby more than 6lbs and my fiancé was only 7lbs) but next week is my 38 week appointment and she said she won’t even do it if I’m not at least 1cm dilated so idk. But kinda having signs that labor may be near 🤷🏻♀️
I was 2cm dilated 40 weeks exactly when I got one done and I went into labor immediately.
What does a membrane sweep even do tbh
@Cat This is why I’m thinking to wait until 40 weeks to have it done so if it does kick start labor then it’s when the baby is fully baked and ready to come out anyway.
My ob told me yesterday because I was 2.5cm and baby is on the larger side she would sweep me at 38 weeks if I wanted. My doula told me today she never recommends sweeping because it can put you into prodromal labor where you’ll be in absolute hell with contractions that don’t progress or cause cervical change or labor to occur. Then at my MFM ultrasound today the dr told me that membrane sweeps don’t actually put you into labor but they soften the cervix. So, I wish I had helpful advice but it’s just a mixed bag of information. I don’t know what to do.
I’m 40 weeks and 4 days 🙃 I got mine done yesterday and lost my mucus plug early this morning! Fingers crossed some contractions start!
@Cat my doula was fine with me getting a membrane sweep! She said move after to help - walk, roll my hips on the ball, have sex, etc. I hate how many opinions are out there, it’s hard to make decisions! Just wanted to forward my doula’s response to my doctor’s recommendation if it helps 💕
I got mine today. We will see
