Tracking with eyes

My daughter is 10.5 weeks. We are a little concerned about her development (very few smiles, especially at people, very little eye contact). She's our third one, so we are comparing to our previous two and what they could do at this age. Our HV has asked us to check if she is tracking a brightly coloured object with her eyes. She's not. Are your little ones doing this?

My boy is the same, has only just started with lots of smiles. Tends to look more into the background rather than at people or objects yet. My little girl was the opposite and very alert so it’s hard not to compare! I’m sure they will do it in their own time ☺️

@Hollie Thanks. How old is your little boy?

My little girl is 8.5 weeks old and she does track and object with her eyes. I do think there’s a big variation on when babies reach certain milestones and it absolutely doesn’t mean you need to be worried. I’d just keep having a go daily. When I noticed the tracking it was when she was in the white bath and my toddler was bringing a brightly coloured green cup up to his mouth to drink the bath water so it was a big contrast in colour!

He’s going to be 11 weeks on Monday!

@Emily Timbrell Thanks. I've tried various brightly coloured things with her and she doesn't even seem to notice them. Hopefully, she will get there soon.

@Hollie Thanks. Mine will be 11 weeks on Tuesday, so they are very close in age.

Have you considered she might have issues with her eyes? All the things you describe could be linked to issues with ability to see. Good luck and I hope things will improve over time 🤞

@Simone Thank you. Yes. We did think about eye sight. The HV said it could be and would refer her to a specialist to check, if we see no improvement in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, she's just taking her time and will be doing what's she's meant to be doing very soon.
