@Karen the nature made prenatal has dha and folic so you don’t have to take it separately!
@Jasmin you are right! The thing is I was taking the Baby & me, and since you said that I started to read and the version I was taking had no DHA 😬 that’s was I was taking it separate. Also to late I found out about the flax seed
@Jasmin very reasonable but i stopped taking the nestle prenatals i had since i found out it had folic instead of folate. And since i havent found the "right" one for me ive been taking natural vitamins/supplements. You are right that i should ask my dr but i have yet to have my first appointment. So much has changed since my last pregnancy tbh. Im almost done with first trimester and i just got my referral last week. Waiting for the call. This is canada btw!!
Check the DHA and omega-3s in your vitamins. Some do contain a little or a lot. You can confer with your doctor. I took salmon oil before my pregnancy, so I continued taking it during, and my doctor was fine with it. I only took half the dose though.
You should be able to talk to a Nurse form that drs office, to confirm stuff like this before your appointment if it’s gonna take some time also I am not totally in love with my prenatal too but I didn’t want to switch mid way so just stuck with them. My OB recommend this one to me personally, so that’s something you could ask too !
You can take algae oil which is the most bioavailable. We all need dha and epa. Oil from fish come from the fish eating the algae, flax is hard as if needs to be converted in the body. Happy to share what we use (an omega 3 liquid which I put in lo ready brek or yoghurt, it’s orange flavoured)
Oh hang on, is this for you, are you pregnant or your child?
You probably don’t need any other supplements other than your prenatal vitamins which mostly have everything you need, try to avoid extra vitamins since our body’s can only take so much in and over consumption of vitamins could be 1 harmful in larger quantities for baby 2 will turn into body waste rather than being used since it can’t be processed. Also flax seed are healthy but should be used toward the end of pregnancy as recommended by my midwife friend, but please ask your OBGYN for medical advice on how and what vitamins and supplements to take as everyone’s bodies are different so there might be need for such supplements for you but not necessarily for everyone so it’s hard to say.
