Hayfever/allergy tablets

Hi ladies, has anyone been prescribed hay-fever tablets? I’m already starting to struggle without mine. I usually just buy them over the counter March - October for hay-fever but they all say not to use in pregnancy and breastfeeding. I’m due to see midwife in a few weeks for 25 week appt but just wondered if anyone had found any safe to use in pregnancy or been prescribed any ? Thanks x

Promethazine is safe to use in pregnancy it can also be used for nausea

I asked the doctors about these and they said they really try to limit anti histamines during pregnancy due to the baby needing to build up histamine. This was only one doctor though. Xx

I normally take fexofenodine and was told there's no true evidence but docs generally recommend Puriton as there's alot of use and no effects

I was told not to take any as it can cause baby to have allergies. Doctor suggested eating local honey, which doesn’t work at all. 🤧

@Lou I work in pharmacy and there is no evidence that promethazine causes harm to baby during pregnancy I was taking it for the first 18 weeks of pregnancy as I have hyperemesis gravidarum (I’m now on a different medication regimen so no longer take) but it is recommended to avoid taking when breastfeeding. It states in the BNF that although manufacturers recommend avoid use in pregnancy there is no evidence of teratogenicity

I have been taking fexofenadine the whole way through pregnancy due to allergies. I have also been prescribed some nasal spray for pregnancy rhinitis and another antihistamine for nausea (both of those prescribed at 24 weeks but I had the symptoms since the beginning of pregnancy). I tried my hardest for 24 weeks but really do need medicine to help me, doctor said I could've asked for help earlier!
