What to start with?

Going to start weaning my boy next week, he is exclusively breast fed atm and will be 5.5 months. Do I start with purées till 6 months? He is really interested in food and reaching for things now so I think we are ready to start x

I started at 5.5 months so did just purees until he turned 6 months but you could just wait a couple of weeks and go straight into blw at 6 months whatever you prefer x we started with veg purees for a week then some combinations and fruit ones. First finger foods at 6 months though was broccoli

I would do soft finger food. I started finger food at 5 months very soft so it just mushed up

We started with iron fortified baby oatmeal when my daughter was about that age, our pediatrician said babies need lots of iron, so she recommended the oatmeal. Then at 6 months we introduced soft food like avocado, banana, well steamed veggies like sweet potato, carrots and broccoli. First time we introduced eggs we gave her a hard boiled egg cut into strips. It was hard for her to eat the egg white but she loved the egg yolk. You can also make an extra soft omelette, cut it into strips so your son can feed himself. I added water to the omelette I make it extra fluffy. My daughter also loves steamed tofu, it’s very soft. Chicken and salmon is great when they’re better at eating. My LO loves anything that has fat and protein. Makes sense since it’s what their little bodies need.

The best first baby food is any foods high in zinc and iron i.e. meat, strip of streak is a good one as they can suck all the juice out (contains the nutrients) or liver pate would be my preference for purée type food ☺️ You can pop food in front of him and if he can put it to his mouth himself while sitting with minimal support, he’s ready (6 months is a guide, every baby is slightly different in terms of motor skills) xx
