After looking at all the info online I plan to wait till the recommended 6 months before start solids unless they start meeting the development stages early (sitting etc)
It’s because the babies digestive system isn’t fully developed/matured until 6 months hence the guidelines.
We waited until 6 months. That's the guidance because babies bodies aren't ready before then Should only be done at 4 months with medical guidance for issues such as reflux otherwise it is causing digestive problems later in life for no reason.
I’ve started giving my little girl baby rice at 4 months, she loves it, I don’t speak to professionals about what to do with my kid because I think there useless personally & one person tells you one thing the other says another 🤣🙌🏻
@Remee purely for info baby rice has no nutritional value.
@Natalie okay didn’t know you made it
@Remee i don't. Some people don't realise so thought I'd mention. Up to you if you want to replace space that should be filled with formula or breastmilk with something pointless
@Natalie oh here we go, let me parent in peace, not exactly pointless when my child enjoys it and is putting on weight🤣
@Remee whatever. There is a reason they don't recommend it before 6 months and don't recommend baby rice anymore.
my daughter turns 4 months in the next few weeks but I'm choosing to wait til she's 6 months purely because I don't want to chance any potential digestive issues later down the line! she's not showing any signs that she's ready for solids and she's doing well on just breastmilk so I don't see much reason to bother yet - she's still got her tongue thrust reflex too so bare minimum I'll wait for her to grow out of that before I try solids 🩷
@Natalie are you still going? It’s people like you that make women feel shit but not me, so shove your comments up your arse
I introduced solids at 4 months as my daughter just was not interested in milk and extremely hungry. She loved it. She’s 4 now, no issues at all and absolutely loved her food 👍
@Emilie Yep usually the earlier you start giving food the better they eat down the line
https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/weaning/ready-or-not-weaning-quiz/ Just as a note the above says that the earlier you introduce food the better they eat, that is definitely not true. You can totally make your own decisions for your child (I personally followed the advice and waited until 6 months) but I'd speak to health visitor/have a look at the NHS website to make a decision, not take advice from randoms on the internet(including me) who often state opinions as if they are facts.

We tried at just after 6 months and my LG wasn’t into it. We then stopped for a month or so due to illness and then when we gave it a second go at 7.5 months my goodness she was ready! She’s now approaching two and one of the best eating toddlers I know (variety and portion sizes). Definitely speak to a HV/GP if you’re wanting to do it early, as you’ll always hear ‘I did it and my baby was fine’ but often if there are issues these wouldn’t come up til much later in their lives! And the professionals will be able to advise best :) good luck, it’s a frustrating and fun journey 😂
@Remee i give my little boy baby porridge and he loves it’s too and he’s 4 months old xx
I joined a weaning class that still supported weaning from 4 months onwards ASLONG as baby showed developmental signs.. and they mentioned the reason the guidance changed to 6 months was because as humans, people began starting before 4 months which was an absolute no go. Whereas if people start at 5 months it isn’t a huge deal.. a lot of the studies about causing digestive issues within babies were primarily found on those who were formula fed… 💀 None the less I started giving my little girl tastes here and there at 4.5-5 months as she was super interested and could hold her head and neck fine, wasn’t long before she learned how to move the food to the back of her mouth and now she loves to eat.. I also don’t see why HV/GPs would recommend weaning sooner for those who have reflux etc if it was so detrimental for future gut development.. just food for thought .. but what you’ll also realise is every HV/GP also give you advice based on their own opinions.. I know mine did. X
@Aimee Yeah exactly what I think! Why recommend to wean sooner if it was so “bad” for their “gut health.” Doesn’t make sense.
I will be starting solids when my second son is 4months. I don’t need to ask a doctor lol I’m the parent - it’s my child.
