Struggling with cues

Is anyone else struggling to read cues with their newborn when feeding? She’s 12 days old. I feel like I don’t know how to differentiate between actual hunger cues or fussiness and I worry I am going to end up over feeding her (formula fed) She’s also really grunty after (and sometimes during) most feeds, pulling her legs up etc. We burp her twice during feeding but she still seems uncomfortable. She’s pooping normally though. Feel a bit like I’m drowning.

Hunger cues for us are chewing on his hands, making sucking mouth movements (even in his sleep), he'll suck on our finger if we put it in his mouth. If milk comes out of their mouth when bottle feeding or trying to push out the teat they're probably full. We're also having the issue of grunting and pulling legs up. We're using infacol which helps a little but still having the issue. It will take a while for you to learn all the cues and sometimes they just need cuddles. This is my second and I had a hard newborn phase last time and this one seems even worse so far but knowing it gets easier and doesn't last forever really helps.

I’m struggling with cues aswell don’t know if I’m burping her well or if she’s hungry or gassy broke down in tears today cus nothing I was doing was working( also only had 3hours of sleep)I’m struggling 😭

Don't worry, mine is nearly 4 weeks now & it took a while to be able to read the cues & sometimes we still struggle to know :') The best test for me is to put a clean finger or knuckle into her mouth & if she immediately has a strong suck she is definitely hungry! & for my husband, if she starts turning her head & opening her mouth towards his chest, he knows to bring her to me for a feed! I guess it's different with formula but you will get there with time & practise. We're all still learning. As for the grunting & pulling the legs up, this usually means pooping for mine & I think it's normal as they're just trying to push it out? Sorry I just realised my response might not be helpful at all as I think you were asking about cues during the feed rather than before, but you will get there, you're only 12 days in, be kind to yourself & try not to worry x
