I’ve started slightly before and he was cleared by the health visitor for it she said a couple of weeks before is fine just not too long basically! As long as they sit up okay in the high chair and tongue thrust is less isn’t as much as some babies keep there tongue thrust for a while!
I started before 6 month the doctor said it can be beneficial as she was always tiny and growing really slow she then showed sign of readiness around 5 months so we started then and she lovessss food and started growing so well!
Totally fine to wait until you’re back! The advice is to start weaning around 6 months but main part is that they are ready. To start with it’s just little tastes, milk is still their main source of nutrition so don’t worry about waiting a couple of more weeks.
Ide wait its only a matter of weeks.. its not for nutritional needs at the beginning stages anyways.. my little one wouldn't be able to do solids just yet she just about copes with pureed 🙂
i have similar issue, my baby will be six months a few days before we go abroad. We are waiting until after at the advice of our health visitor as they said 100% no to giving anything before that point. Food in the first few months of weaning really is just getting them used to it, some babies don’t really take in very much so nutritionally milk is still their main food source anyway. I’m worried about it as he’s showing all the signs of readiness but i also cannot think how we would manage it abroad unless he had already properly started the weaning process.
@Louisa could you not take a few of the pouches from over here an try with him whilst on hoilday some are so Tiny they could easily fit in your luggage.?
We’re the same, going away for Easter hols too and my girl turns 6 months before we go so I’m just going to wait till we are back x
Before 1 food is just for fun. Breast milk and formula is their main form of nutrition so you can start whenever you and baby are ready. I started my 1st October boy a week before 6 months but every baby is different x
@Jenny I don’t think i would like to use pre-made pouches, although totally can see why people do! I’m also scared he would be allergic to something even if we stay away from the main allergens. The health visitor also said it’s not a good idea to start it abroad when it’s all so much change anyway, so our choice is either go against guidance and start it a few weeks in advance (so now ) or do it wait until we get back. Neither feel like great options! I wish we had realised when we booked the holiday 🤣
@Louisa this is exactly why we are delaying ours as well. Couldn’t bear the thought of finding out she’s allergic to something whilst abroad😩 x
@Amy Even though it’s unlikely it’s such a scary possibility!
They don’t NEED food at 6 months as you’re not feeding them to replace a milk feed. It’s just experimental for now.
My little boy will be 6 months on the 26th but we’re starting next week x
@Louisa I think the pouches an jars are OK on the odd occasions
I have started before he’s 6 months but he had hit all the ‘signs’ he’s ready to start! He can bring his hand to mouth, sit up in his chair/hold his head well and no tongue thrust! He’s 6 months on the 24th!
