I thought weaning would be fun…..

Anyone else’s LO that’s started weaning just hate it? We’ve only tried broccoli, avocado and potato so far but she absolutely hates it, will happily put spoon in mouth with nothing on but as soon as foods on she won’t 😑

Very normal. My eldest wouldn't entertain a spoon - he wanted to do everything himself so I would put the veg on his tray for him to grab. I'm only a week in with my second and he wants to use the spoon himself - won't let me put it in his mouth. Have you tried different times of the day? May make a difference. They're only trying things at this age and it can take time for them to learn and accept it. If you follow SR Nutrition on Instagram she has lots of helpful information and does q&as quite regularly.

yep! i’ve tried finger foods, tried purées, tried different times of the day, tried hot, tried cold, tried different spoons 😂 she won’t put a thing in her mouth!

My LG gags at the sight of a spoon after trying carrot, pear and cauliflower purées 🤣 just trying to be patient and roll with it.

Yes my little girl hated it and cried for the first week! Now she’s a little better and doesn’t cry right away, I’m just persevering and following her lead, she doesn’t really actually eat anything just mainly feels the food with her hands and has a little taste. Eating is a skill and food is brand new to them so it takes time for them to feel comfortable with it, some little ones are just a bit more sensitive! X

my daughter is a bit like this. she likes playing with finger foods and loves trying to feed herself with a spoon but she suddenly gets sooo upset and cries and screams so loudly until i get her out of the chair and breastfeed her! glad it's not only us, my first took to it a lot easier😅

Mines the same. He seems so interested in food until it’s food for him! I know the first few months it’s mostly about them exploring texture and taste. But he is so UNinterested when it comes to actually weaning. We eat what he does with him too but nope. Just gonna keep trying and not make a big deal of it. I try to make it fun and use one of his toys that he loves to distract him a bit when the food is in his mouth which helps. But you are not alone. I don’t expect him to eat it necessarily but I thought the way he brings EVERYTHING (but his food) to his mouth and looks interested in what we eat he’d be loving trying things. So we’re very surprised!

Glad it’s not just us 😅 that’s the thing that gets me @Jami she will put everything else straight to her mouth but as soon as it’s food no interest, I’ll give her a toy or teether after whilst I tidy up and she’s straight away munching on it 🫠 thought something sweeter like carrot might make a difference today but by the sounds of it that makes no difference 😂
