Baby's first feed - Advice please x

Hello I'm planning to give my baby his first meal tomorrow which will be puréed sweet potato. I believe the recommendation is 1 meal a day. I'm starting quite late as he is nearly 7 months but he's ready for food now. Mama's is there a specific time in the day you'd feed baby this 1 meal a day? Like example afternoon or early dinner time? Did you also drop a milk feed? I'm worried if he doesn't take to food he may end up losing weight if I drop a milk feed. Help would be greatly apprecaited x

Hi, Up until baby is 12 months milk remains their main source of nutrition so no need to drop his milk feeds. Naturally when he starts eating more he may not want to drink as much. At this point food is just fun to help baby to learn to manipulate and move food in his mouth and swallow. Best time to feed baby is when they have had a good milk feed and satisfied and happy rather than when they are tired and grumpy. You want the experience to be fun and playful for baby and you. If you have not done so already might be helpful to reach out to your health visitor to see if they run an introduction to solids workshop in your area

I usually offer purèe around 2-3pm about an hour after her bottle which usually falls around 1pm. No need to drop milk, still offer the same, they’ll just slowly stop drinking as much when they’re ready but that’s usually when you’re on several meals a day. Do 1 meal for a few weeks then move onto 2 a day x

Thanks so much ladies xxx
