Panicking

So I accidentally had too much caffeine today and I am panicking! I was away for work , long journey, meeting clients etc! I had 1 green tea, 2 cups of strong black tea - (loads of decaf coffee which is fine) and then when I got home I wanted to relax and ended up having loads of black chocolate! I am adding up all the tea and black chocolate and it’s way more than the recommended nhs guidance! 😳 I have been so busy I have not been thinking about the guidance at all 😭

I would try not to worry too much, it doesn't sound like you would have gone over the recommendation by too much and the guidance is purposefully a bit restrictive. Also it's just one day and I believe the caffeine in chocolate is slower acting so over time won't have all hit you at the same timelines etc.

Please do not worry at all! I've definitely had days where I've been over the recommended 200mg and days where I've been well under. I highly recommend you read Expecting Better by Emily Oster which examines the research on caffeine consumption and disputes the current guidelines based on evidence.

Tbh don’t worry, and remember you can always contact your local midwife if need. I’ve been so careful regarding caffeine, I only drink decaffeinated drinks just to save the worry on watching my intake, however I know loads of pregnant women who drink normal tea/coffee and normal coke all the time. But always contact your midwife if you’re needing peace of mind lovely. ❤️

@Emer thank you!!

@Eleanor thank you this reassured me, I read the book - but sometimes my head just spins-out of control regardless what I read 😂😂
