Weight gain meals!

My baby is considered majorly underweight and I don’t know what to do. She just seems more weak and always wants to sleep. She doesn’t really met the criteria for a dietician but there are concerns. Can anyone suggest any fatty meals but nutritious for a one year old! I’m willing to try anything, she doesn’t even have much fluids either so the risks of taking her into a&e

Hiya, sorry to hear that mama... My baby girl is tiny too but not underweight..I give her lentils rice curry with an egg and some ghee (we are indian) to fatten her up. It keeps her full and has helped weight gain. You could try dairy, full fat yoghurt, cheese etc Avocado, nuts, butter I also had her formula milk into her daily breakfast ie. Weetabix too

Full fat yoghurts, maybe something like shepherds pie with some cheese if she will happily pick at bits of cheese, if I do a shepherds pie I put the mince mash and cheese all separate (she would stuff it all in her mouth and choke otherwise) tuna and pasta, maybe even yoghurt blended with fruit (like a smoothie) if she has a favourite fruit xx

Lots of healthy fats- cheese, eggs, avocado, nut butters, fish, yogurts etc. I'd give a portion of healthy fat at every meal, with carbs and fruit/veg. Start with safe foods she enjoys and pair with new foods so there is always something she likes and will eat.

@Shannon hiya sorry to jump in on this but what yogurts would you suggest as I don't want to give her petite filous due to the sugar content.

@Samina we just use a full fat plain Greek yoghurt she either has it plain or I buy some fruit pouches to mix in it x

@Shannon thank you 😊

Thank you girlies this has helped so much xx

I blended greek yogurt with banana like a smothie and my son loves it, porridge pancakes, eggs etc. my son is also tiny but I don’t think he is underweight. How much is your girl weighing if you dont mind sharing?

She’s about 7.8kg they’ve given us a month for a review to try put the weight on

Just to jump in my wee girl is 8.02kgs this week and HV was fine with it as she's on the 25th centile for both height and weight. Should I be concerned?

It depends on her food intake and if she was born as a small baby. My girl is refusing pretty much quite a bit and she’s been struggling to move around

@Samina you shouldn't be concerned if she is following her curve, only if there is a big shift from it. Some are just on the smaller side 🙂

Oh okay thank you @Sam and incognito..that's reassuring to know..

7.8kg is healthy for some babies. That’s 10th percentile. Unless she’s dropped way off her usual percentile? Anyway, pediasure its a shake that can also help weight gain - you can add to meals or make into a shake.

Thank you, yes they’ve said he’s is more coz of not eating or gaining nutrients just becoming more weak which is delaying her from doing much.

If she is lethargic in any way, I would take her to A&E.

If she’s not having fluids and seems tired and weak I would definitely be taking her to a&e x

Yes they’ve advised this but I’ve gone in a couple of times consultant said if I can manage to get to get nappies it’s fine and to try give fruits that fluid but yeah I do keep an eye on it xx
