For me I had it in my first but I don’t have it this pregnancy. For some people it’s purely hormonal based. I’m a size 10 normally so came as a such surprise for me last time!! But for some it’s placenta driven, so don’t put any type of “blame” on yourself, there’s nothing you could have done. It just happens to some of us! You’ll get frequent growth scans and yes generally they like baby to come earlier. Partly down to baby size but also in your scans they’ll monitor the blood flow to baby from placenta. The bigger risk is placenta failure later in pregnancy which is why they’re often keen to induce / elective c section at 39 weeks while the placenta is still working well. I’d really recommend going to Gestational Diabetes UK website, so much great info there! They also have a FB group which was so so helpful for me with diet tips and managing blood sugars and lots of very positive induction stories!
Yes I had it from 24 weeks, was induced 10 days early. Advised baby measuring past 99th percentile and that he would be 10lb.. born 8.2lb. So take measurement with a pinch of salt. Fasting overnight blood sugar levels are harder to control and I had to use insulin. My after meal readings were easily controlled through diet.
I have GD. I had my GTT early because of PCOS. I’ve been on Metformin since I was about 16 weeks as my fasting sugars were always slightly out of range. I’ve been on insulin for about 2 weeks now for the same reason. Your weight doesn’t have much to do with you having GD. I’ve had growth scans at 24 and 28 weeks. Next one will be at 32 weeks. No mention of induction or concerns of baby’s growth.
I am going through it, I am now on insulin too, it seems no matter what we do medication wise it stops working after 2/3 days max, I am waiting on our growth scan on the 28th to talk to the consultant, I am an elective c section after my emergency one last time and my midwife said it’s likely it will be brought forward to 37/38 weeks x
