Drinking water / squash

My little girl is 11 months old, and since she’s started solids at 6 months she’s never really taken to drinking lots of water. she might have an oz or 2. with summer approaching of course i want her to be getting a good fluid intake. i have tried so many different types of cups and nothing makes her interested, until i offered her a really weak watered down squash today and she’s already drank most of the 9oz i gave her! i feel it’s really controversial, but if it’s the only way to get her drinking good amounts that’s what i’m going to do, and still offer her plain water at times too. Does anyone have any recommendations for “healthier” squashes to offer? i’ve seen tesco have come out with a kids multi vitamin range and im thinking of trying that!?

My LO is 8 months and is the same won’t take to having water. She does try it has a few sips and then turns away. I offered her squash once just to see if she would drink and she happily had. Since then continued just to offer water. Really don’t want to then to squash but might have to if she continues to not want water

Can always try cut up fruit in the water as an alternative to squash? Gives a little of the fruity taste :)

I don’t get the big deal with squash. It’s literally a tiny drop in a whole cup of water. It’s going to do them zero harm! If it keep them hydrated it’s a win win ☺️ my little one has juice during the day and then we just offer water at dinner time otherwise he drinks his body weight and pees the bed. Do what works for you. We also sometimes buy fresh fruit juice and water that down, works the same ☺️

@Tash what is squash? I was confused cuz I thought it was the vegetable

@Nathalie it’s basically a fruit juice drink where u add water to it!

Below 12 months the advice is for babies not to have much water, just a bit with meals - no more than 50ml a day - as it fills babies' tiny tummies up. Under 12 months, breast or formula milk should be the biggest intake of drink/food, with solids being offered after milk. A little bit of water can be offered after that. Post 12 months, solids should be offered before milk, but milk often continues to provide a lot of the nutrition and hydration needs of one+ year old babies. This can be cow milk or alternative milk - oat, soya, etc - as well as formula or breast milk. Babies can drink more water post one year old but it's still important to make sure they're not filling up on that rather than on food or milk. I think the multivitamin squash usually still has sweeteners and flavourings in but you could check. The 'healthier' one I get for myself is called Rocks, and it just has sugar in with fruit and water, no flavourings etc.

My lo was like this at this age, just keep trying. Is she still having milk? Formula or breast milk? Because that will keep her hydrated too

@Nathalie I think you would call it cordial? Like a flavoured syrup sort of thing. But you hardly need to use any to flavour water which is why I don’t understand people who are so against it 😂
