I’m taking pregnacare and have been throughout my whole pregnancy. I’m pretty sure this has folic acid in, but not as much as the standard folic acid tablets x
Just take the natural form, Methylfolate x
I've taken pregnacare tablets throughout this pregnancy and my last.
I took it until 12 weeks with my first and this time it was making me really sick so I stopped taking it at about 9weeks because I just couldn’t take feeling so sick and not eating anything
I had to take it all the way through, not sure how accurate the links are with tongue tie though I know people whose babies have had tongue tie and never taken folic acid
I was on a higher dose prescribed by midwife until 20 weeks. So have stopped taking it now as I have just turned 20 weeks. I'm now on vitamin D/calcium, pregnacare multivits and aspirin (aspirin because of my BMI).
I took folic acid the whole time in all pregnancies due to a family history of spina bifida. Only 1/4 had tongue tie - my most recent baby. The tongue tie Dr said they weren't sure whether the link was due to the folic acid or older mothers (who are more likely to take folic acid).
I stopped at 12 weeks with both my pregnancies, one had a bad tongue tie (couldn’t use 2/3 of her tongue), one didn’t have one
I took a pregnancy multivitamin the whole way through, I’ve never heard that about tongue tie before
I stopped at 12 weeks. I'd bought the gummies and they were disgusting so I was glad to can it. I'd had to start having them in the night anyway because they were making me sick. I've never heard of that link with tongue tie. Seems pretty random!
I was just about to come on here and ask the same thing, both my 2 friends took folic acid throughout pregnancy an both babies had tongue tie, I’ve been taking a multivitamin that also has folate in, I’m 22 weeks now and recently seen links to high dose of folate in pregnancy can cause autism so I’m just so torn on what to do, I’ve ordered some natural vitamin D and going forward think I’m just going to stick to that. You really don’t know what to do for the best xx
5mg folic acid through the whole of pregnancy due do medication x
I stopped at some point in the second trimester because I'd just chuck it up with breakfast anyway 😂 baby had tongue tie regardless. Linking folic acid and tongue tie seems a little tenuous, likely correlation rather than causation.
I stopped at 12 weeks and was all good.

I'd not been told this and was encouraged to take it through with my 1st who was born with a tongue tie. It looks like the research is still developing from what I'm seeing online
I didn’t take a single one with both of my kids. First kid didn’t have a tongue tie but Second kid had a tongue tie🤷🏼♀️
I took pure folic acid the first 12 weeks then from 13 weeks onwards started taking the pregnacare multivitamins they have everything in them you and baby need. 28 weeks now 👍🏻
I was on prescribed folic acid at a higher dose and they stopped that when I hit 12 weeks, but the pregnancy vitamins I take have a small amount through
I stopped taking folic acid at 12 weeks but I do take vitamin D still x
I would definitely take it throughout the whole pregnancy, it is really important for many processes like methylation throughout all stages and beyond. But methylfolate is definitely the better choice since half of the population has a genetic variation that doesn’t allow for proper usage of synthetic folic acid, which can lead to all kinds of issues in those people. That’s why depending on the genetic variation, some will be absolutely fine, and some will develop issues (on synthetic folic acid). Methylfolate is already active and doesn’t need to be converted like folic acid does, therefore is well absorbed even by half of us who have the genetic variant.
@Kalina thank you, can you recommend a brand? There are so many!
I took it all the way through, was find for me.
I took them throughout my whole pregnancy. I’ve recently started taking them again as I kept catching colds, and I never caught a cold whilst pregnant, and now realise folic acid is good for your immune system!!
@Hannah it depends whether you want a full prenatal or not, although I think it’s worth it! Naturelo is excellent as an example!
@Kalina thank you! I will take a look 😊
I carried on for a bit and just stopped when I ran out of the container. I’m just taking vit D now for the remainder 😊
