Anyone else finding weaning difficult and slow?

We started weaning at 6 months, started with purrees and finger foods. I wanted to do a mix of baby led and also spoon feeding. It’s gone a lot slower than I expected- baby now 8 months and used spoon as a teether most of the time. She likes to pick up and eat the finger foods but she ends up taking lots in not being able to chew and then pushes it out with her tongue or gags. We had a bad gagging incident and she counted which has put me off giving her finger foods. When she self feeds She has great hand control and wants to use her pincer grip all the time but that means very little of the mashed foods are actually eaten… and still not a fan taking it off a spoon.,, Anyone else experiencing this? Any tips?

I could’ve written this… my son won’t open his mouth for a spoon but will chew on it. By that time though any puree or porridge has been flung off the spoon so doesn’t go in his mouth lol. We’re just persevering I guess. My aunt in law (if that’s a thing) didn’t really take to food until 14 months so I’m just continuing to offer food 😂

Our LO will not take anything off a spoon, but this past week will shovel anything mashed into him We've just kinda given up on the spoon ATM just glad he's eating something and let him have at it The teething pain really held him back eating anything then as soon as the tooth broke he can't get enough mush into him lol

Thanks both! We have the same with the spoon! LO has been a bit better since her tooth has come through. yesterday was a successful day for BLW LO loves coconut yoghurt, mashed raspberries snd spinach purree so guessing it’s a journey figuring out what they will like. Not a fan of meats yet haha
