Block tear ducks just keep washing it out it can last ages but sometimes not speak to gp though they’ll most likely say the same. The baby will get seen straight away due to them being under a certain age aswell if it spreads to other eye or you catch it you know it’s conjunctivitis but at this age it’s mostly block tear ducts x
My first born daughter had this from birth. I was referred to a paediatrician ophthalmologist and they advised it would take up to a year for it to improve, and every time she got ill it would make her eyes worse, which was frustrating. It did improve after her first birthday, but did take longer to fully resolve. Sounds like you are doing all you can to help.
My baby had this! It’s gradually gotten better on its own as I was using cool boiled water to wipe it with. It’s called sticky eye I think. However they do say if there’s excessive gunk there to get it looked at - baby might need some eyedrops or something to make sure it’s not an infection. If you ring your GP and explain, they’d likely want to see you as they’re so young and would give you an emergency appointment or tell you to use 111. You could always ask your health visitor too if you’ve got the 6 week visit coming up! Hope it gets better x
Our GP always prioritises appointments on the same day if it’s a young baby, even though it’s hard to get appointments for us adults for weeks - I’m sure yours would be the same
I went to the doctor and they gave her some eye drops
My midwife told me that the health visitor is able to get you a quick appointment with a gp, best of luck! ❤️
My little one has this currently. Midwife said to go the GP as he might need something to help clear it up. GP wasn’t concerned and said it’s due to blocked tear ducts but can take up to a year to 100% clear and to just use cooled boiled water to clean x
I read a medical paper recently that had found the effectiveness of breastmilk and eye drops were almost identical in infants. Our little girl's eye cleared up beautifully with just breastmilk
I had it with my little boy and we went to urgent care and they gave us eyedrops but literally they eased it for abit but it was still there now he’s 7 weeks and for the last week it has completely gone 🥹 I think they just have to grow out of it xx
Thanks so much everyone for your advice! I called the GP and they gave me a same day appointment which i was surprised about. The GP advised it was an issue with the tear duct but the only thing to do was continue to clear with cold boiled water or breast milk and that it could last weeks or months but to just keep at it!
You can lightly massage the tear duct a little to keep clearing the blockage. I should have said, that's what we were doing along with the breastmilk.
Not sure but I'd probably call the health visitor and ask what they recommend or pop to one of their clinics
