Talking?

So we’re approaching 2 now and my little boy doesn’t stop chatting, but majority of it isn’t really real worlds, it’s all jibberish lol he says mum, dad, dodo (dummy) and yes/okay consistently in context, and has said other words in context too but only a couple of times. I try to get him to repeat words after me but he just isn’t interested lol he knows what things are/ are called for example if I ask him if he wants a drink he’ll go and get his cup. But I’m concerned he should be saying more?

Literally could have written this myself about my boy 😭

Oh really?? I do hear boys can be slower with development than girls so I try not to compare him to other kids I know but it’s hard!

Hello fellow Stevenage mum! 👋 Boys are generally slower with speech so I wouldn’t be overly concerned at such a young age, if he was 2.5-3 I would contact the HV. My May baby doesn’t shut up but she’s learning from her sister so I wouldn’t compare her to others her age x

Boys generally are slower to start talking. My little boy can say 30 to 4O words easily. It's hard not to worry but just keep on encouraging language, read to him if you don't already, talk about what you can see and hear at home and out and about. Also having subtitles on programmes children are watching helps as though they don't understand their still seeing words. Most children are talking by 2 and a half he's got plenty of time.

He understands what you're saying, that is great! Every child is different. He's talking jibberish, which is also great! Keep talking to him, keep reading. It will come!
