Grandparents buying things

My mum is constantly buying things for my LG. Every time she comes to visit (she lives 2 hours away) she buys my LG new toys. When she stayed recently she went to the shop with her and bought loads of toys for her, which she'll play with for 5 minutes. My LG was asking for chocolate cake for weeks her dad and I wouldn't buy it for her but then her nanny bought it and gave it to her 15mins before dinner time. She's constantly going to the shops to buy her toys and clothes. We have more than enough clothes now and are running out of space for them. I've told her a few times now that no more toys or clothes. Am I being to harsh? My LG already expects toys from nanny when she comes. I don't want her to grow up expecting things from people or thinking that she can get whatever she wants.

I have exactly the same issue with my MIL, she buys whatever she sees and doesn’t want to hear that we already have no space for it all, plus it’s all tacky…

I think that's why kids like their grandparents 😀

I think both you and your partner need to have a sit down and discuss this with her. Express your concerns, but ensure she knows how grateful you are. Perhaps advise that every time she has an urge to spend money or buy something, pop it aside it little ones savings account. That way your mam can have a more positive impact on little one’s future by helping to give her a decent head start financially. My mum and grandpa were doing something similar and were buying tat constantly and now, LG has over £3k in premium bonds as a result following our convo with them 🙂

@Aimée I agree. I've told her to put this into a trust fund for her.

Put it on Vinted 😂
