Where to start for adoption
My friend has a heart condition and she can’t carry her own kids without being at risk. Her partner and her a wants to adopt, but she doesn’t know where to start

She needs to look into adoption agencies and start the process or look into the foster care.
For the agencies Would the agency be based on what state she lives in or can she use any agencies in the US?
I only have experience of the UK but if helpful, for us it was based on the state
Yes, every state is different but some lawyers if she does private adoption deal with many many states
Private adoption is expensive and there are agencies that you can go through but expect at least a year

First thing would be to look into your local authority and you can register interest. We were contacted to discuss our interest in it and then they sent us some preliminary info. When we were happy we attended an info session and it all started after that. It is a long process but absolutely worth it and some of the prep you do I genuinely think all parents should have to do before bringing a baby into your relationship! Good luck to your friend. Xx
