Boys are much slower than girls apparently there eye sight for colours are more slower than girls aswell what I was told. My boy will only say mummy but not all the time he does know other words but he barley talks like he learns it then acts like he forgets it and just wont say it for weeks they go at there own pace all my nephews was late talkers the girls was fast so I’m not worried about my boy as he will get there so will your boy in his own time x
My son just started saying a few words close to this age. I know it’s common for children in a multilingual household to have delayed speech. My child doesn’t prioritise listening, he loves to try out more physical activities like running and climbing etc
I pressed no but I meant yes! I have a little boy also and he’s also not interested in copying me at all. He says dada but he doesn’t know he’s saying dada (if that makes sense) and he’s now saying car for everything 😂I have been a bit worried as a lot of people have been posting in this group saying “my child only says 3 words” and I’m like yeah my son says none! But I know it will come in time and it sounds like you’re doing everything right 😊 xx
Normal for their receptive language to be far better than expressive language at this age, and he sounds like he’s bang on where he should be with that. You’re doing lots of great stuff to support language and social communication development. And when it comes, it can be fast! You might go from no words to lots of words in a matter of weeks. I personally wouldn’t be worried just yet. 18mo would be a rough marker for expecting some animal noises and attempts to say words (even if they don’t sound like the word to anyone else, but you can understand what he means)
Do not worry he sounds fine!! My son only says "cat" and "yeah" - he absolutely understands loads more words and I frequently try to get him to copy me but he is very selective about what he chooses to copy (stubborn little guy 🤣 / I'm positive he does it to wind me up lol).
We have “mummy” & “mama” since about 14 months but now 17m and nothing else
My sister was a late talker (18m) and she now has a PhD. Its so hard to know what is normal! You are doing all the right things!
