It’s a really awful thing to go through, especially if you haven’t seen anything like that before I had no idea what was going on, a passer by actually told me she’s having a seizure and even now to this day (it hasn’t happened since) If she looks at me strange or doesn’t respond to me straight away I do worry. It is very scary but it will get better, give yourself some time :)
@Charlotte sorry to hear your daughter was so poorly! My son was fine before it happened too! Thank you for being so kind, I’m feeling very delicate and sensitive, like life flipped upside down in an instant and now we are back to normal a few days later and life goes on, but I feel like I have a newborn again, constantly checking his temperature etc xx
Don’t worry this is completely normal, you have been through something traumatic, and unless any of your friends or family have seen something like that happen with their child no one will ever know what it feels like! and to see your child like that it is very scary, and you feel so helpless! You didn’t know what was going to happen, it’s scary how quick they can change! I was exactly the same, anytime my daughter got a bit hot, I would check her temperature, thankfully she hasn’t had one since. Try not to fixate on it too much as you will drive yourself crazy, just allow yourself some time to kind of get over it and just come to terms with what’s happened, did you get given emergency seizure medication? This has given me loads of reassurance incase it does happen again, but thankfully nearly a year later we haven’t experienced it again!
Omg this sounds scary! What did you do? Does it stop on its own? How can this be normal?
@Jen its a febrile convulsion (seizure) common in children under the age of 6. It’s where there is a sudden spike in temperature, they usually last less than 5 minutes and the child would recover quite quickly. But in some cases can be more serious if there is a serious infection ect. But they are typically harmless and cannot be prevented. If longer than 5 minutes they are given medication to stop the seizure x
My LG had 2 after her 12 month vaccinations and bar far the worst day of my life nothing could be worse see your baby go through that and be totally helpless, i was told then its highly like she will have another if she has spike in her temp, since then shes had many temps and even poorly few times inc chicken pox and no seizure, 1 day at nursery over a month ago she was perfectly fine playiny then suddenly she collapsed and had another seizure with no explanation, i was told it wasnt the same as before and no tests done this time and barly much advice going forward, i saw our GP and pushed for a referral to neurology cos something in me says its more then that and I can't keep dreading every day shes guna have another and i dont know why, where due to see the nurse specialist on Monday and then the consultant in june, i totally feel your pain and how traumatising it is.
@Rachel you should definitely push them for more tests! My daughter’s happened 2 weeks after the 12 month vaccine I thought it was related tbh. She had an mri & eeg done this year (all clear) and was referred for epilepsy (doesn’t have) and given emergency seizure medication as her first seizure was longer than 15 minutes and mainly one sided but in the end they put it down to viral and febrile convulsions. I hope you get the answers you deserve, it’s so worrying being on edge all the time…
@Charlotte that does sound scary. I would be traumatized too!
@Charlotte yeah my LG first seizure was over 40 mins and second over 20 mins ahe had brain scan and lumber puncture test and acan was fine but found she had viral meningitis even though she wasnt showing any symptoms and was well before and even after, i was told 3 different scenarios of what it would be and none of them make sense to when i would of expected her to have another and when she did it was 4 and half mins long and had no viral infections no temp nothing, and now i feel more anxious cos theres literally no explination, it just doesnt feel right i dont think they did enough and im just being fobbed off and getting the whole viral meningitis excuse as the cause but i dont think that had anything to do with it at all but of course what does the mother know?!
Hi my daughter had one in July last year so she was 13 months old at the time. We was in a busy town centre so there was a large response and I can’t lie it was the most traumatic time of my life, I can’t even go back to the place it happened. I’m not sure the circumstances of yours. But my daughter was a random spike in temp, she was perfectly fine playing in a a park 1 hour before. no warning signs. and it was prolonged they struggled to bring her back round, had a crash kit attached to her and everything 😭 spent about 5 days in hospital I was a mess for a good couple months very traumatised, but I barely think about it now nearly a year later. I hope you & your child are recovering well. It is pretty common my brother had them all the time as a child although very scary and when it’s your baby it’s horrible. But you will both be okay :))) definitely not being dramatic, I didn’t let me daughter out of my sight for 6 months, wouldn’t even let my mum take her anywhere 😂
