I requested to see all my maternity notes, I had to fill in a form, attach my ID and send it off to a specific email address. I then got my notes via post a few weeks later. Google your hospital + request patient records, something should come up x
I'm not sure if it's different depending on where you give birth. My midwife talked me through it and everything that happened while she wrote my notes once i was in recovery. I was also given a printout of all my birth details when discharged. I'm able to see them on badger notes, too, which i didn't realise. (Mine was an emergency c section after a long time of natural labour). Talking through it and having something to look at definitely helps, so I hope you are able to access what you need xx
Yes I’ve requested and waiting to hear back from hospital about this
Thanks all, I saw the health visitor today and mentioned it to her - she’s going to request someone contacts me about this.
I requested my first sons birth notes after having a traumatic birth with him. They came 3 days after finding out that I was pregnant with my second son. Reading them actually settled my mind so much more for the birth of my second son, but it was still in the back of my mind that I could haemorrhage with my second son too. Luckily, this time around, my birth was plain sailing with no complications and has healed my birth trauma of my first. For me, because of the trauma from my first son, it was as though my brain had blocked most of labour out, so I couldn't remember a lot. But reading the notes, it all came back to me x
Ask your midwife. A birth debrief is available for you and you can request birth notes for up to 25 years after your birth (might be trust dependent). I am booked to have a birth debrief 6 weeks after my birth. Sorry you had a tough time xxx
